Flyers fan coming in peace.

I live in the area and haven't been to a Pens game before but I will be attending Pens-Blackhawks on Friday.

What is the parking situation like? Are the public lots near by? $20?

Appreciate any help.

There's a nice lot on the corner of Forbes and Pride run by a church. It's pay by donation. So you can park there and pay $1 (if you're cheap), but I usually toss them a $10 since that's still cheaper than anywhere else.

Have to get there kind of early as it fills up fast.

I usually park a little futher than Steel Tower (can drive there but don't remember the road it's on) in a garage that goes underground. I think it's like $10 bucks and is a 10 min walk. It's easier for me to get out of town from there too as opposed to one closer to the arena.

I also have to ask....

Is wearing another teams / different jersey o.k at the Arena?

I have a few team Canada Lemieux ones but I wasn't sure if I would be heckled or not wearing one.

Oh yeah it's totally fine. I can't imagine anyone heckling a fan for wearing any Lemieux jersey in Pittsburgh.

There may be a bit of heckling for a Flyer's jersey, but even then, not that much. Consol is a pretty tame building in terms of treatment for away team's fans.

I would stress coming through the Fort Pitt tunnel as your first entry into the city. It's worth the extra 30 minutes or so.

Agreed, one of the nicest views in America. Especially as a "first view of the city".

Also make sure to go up to Mt. Washington. You get a birds eye view of downtown and the rest of the city. #1 must see destination for any visitor of Pittsburgh, IMO.

Unlike people in Philly, people at the Console are pretty tame and friendly. You won't get heckled. Some people may give you a ribbing if you're wearing a Flyers jersey, but it will usually be in good fun.

and you can get there without driving if you don't want to deal with that. You can take the T over to Station Square, then ride the Incline up Mt. Washington.

The incline, with kids, would probably be a kick ass thing. Such an underrated part of Pittsburgh. I've lived here my entire life (other than school at OSU) and I still just can't get enough of going through the Fort Pitt tunnels and seeing the city out of nowhere. It's breathtaking.

Just wanted to post a quick thanks to contributors to this thread... Pittsburgh is the final stop in a big sports road trip I'm making this December, wrapping it up with the Christmas Day game Vs. Baltimore at Heinz Field. Gonna pack my Terrible Towel and see the Steelers off on their trip to Super Bowl LI and catch James Harrison in action before he retires for good.

I like to park downtown and walk. It's a lot cheaper, but I don't care about the cost as much as it's infuriating to sit in gridlock in the lots nearest to the arena and wait and wait and wait to leave. It might save time too, or at least it's a wash.

So on the flip side do any of our Canadian Pens fans have suggestions for restaurants in Montreal? Wife and I got to the city last night for a short vacation before we become parents this winter :) She even got us tickets to a Habs/Leafs preseason game this week (obviously I'm a lucky guy haha).

Afternoon everyone. I am making my first trip to Pittsburgh on Nov 30 for 3 games (Dallas - Detroit - Ottawa) and I am looking for advice about where to go for a pre-match pint where there will be other fans.

I have an idea about how I will be spending my days between games but I am open to suggestions for ways in which to get the most out of this city. I will not have a car as I am traveling from Montreal (originally from the UK) so everything must be public transit friendly. With that in mind is there anyway of getting to the Pens practice sessions via PT or would I have to splash the cash on an Uber?

I am staying via Airbnb in Oakland near UoP.

Public transit is garbage here. The T is basically like 1/4th of what it should be.

I'm not sure if all of the practices are at the Lemieux Facility in Cranberry, PA... but if they are that's an expensive Uber/Lyft fare from Oakland. (~$35 as per http://lyftcalculator.com/costs).

I guess I could get as near to Cranberry on PT then Uber/Lyft it. Do you have Uber or is that a dirty word in Pittsburgh?

Is a practice session worth the effort? How long are they actually on the ice for? When they talk on the local radio here about Montreal they seem to be there for less than an hour!

Do we know if they are cool for autographs etc after the sessions?

Yes, to Uber. Also, you can find the schedule for UPMC66 here. They don't always post the full Pens practice schedule in advance, though, so you'll need to check to see if any have been added every couple of days.

Not sure if this is in the right place so sorry in advance if it is wrong. I'm visiting for 3 games next week (Dallas - Detroit - Ottawa) and it will be my first time in Pittsburgh so I would appreciate some help with a few things.

Where do people go for a few drinks before the game?
What is the weather currently like there right now?
Is it worth taking a trip out to the practice facility?
Any "must do" things whilst I'm there?

Thanks for any help :)

We're getting excited as our game is coming up on NYE! :)

Can someone fill me in as to when the arena opens before a game? I was hoping to get the kids down to the lower level to see them practice but I wasn't sure what time they let everyone in?

Roughly one hour before puck drop. Sometimes it opens up before. But only 10-15 minutes more. If game is at 7pm, then 6 pm.

Plenty of time prior to warmups.
