It absolutely is true. You're not guaranteed 2 young guns per blaster anymore since they trimmed blasters down to 7 packs. You're better off lighting $35 on fire.

IMO- the best bang for your buck right now is on Upper Deck ePack. You have no clutter in your home and the ability to trade for cards that you actually want.

I’m interested in the e pack route, I just dont know much about it. Is it really as easy as just buying a virtual pack and if you pull a good card you can have the real thing sent to you?

I've been on ePack since it started in early 2016 (McDavid yg year), it's honestly the best. I trade all the cards I don't care about for stuff I want (i.e., young guns I think will have value down the road). There's a few Facebook groups where you can buy/sell cards that you have on ePack too- or you can send directly from ePack to COMC.com to sell. I've only started to sell on COMC as of January 2021 and I've already done over $3,500 USD in sales. This cuts out a lot of packaging up physical cards or just letting inserts sit in 500 count boxes that are a pain in the ass to sell on eBay.

Coronavirus has really f***ed up ePack's shipping times to Canada (I think they're delayed by 6+ months). But my alternative is that I often ship from ePack to a website called ShipMyCards (takes 3 weeks) and then from ShipMyCards to Calgary (takes about a week).

DO you ever get anything worthwhile in the daily free packs? Better to pick one set vs another? Are the battles worthwhile?

Bought a second box of 2020-21 UD Series 1, and that was a mistake. Nothing worth mentioning here, and I'm short one card from making the base set (William Nylander).

Should have just waited for Series 2.

Also, I saw that some high-end cards now come with things like pins (from the fight-strap, I believe?) and the laundry tags. This to me is absolutely ridiculous, and I would hate to get a card like that (not that I buy the high-end stuff). Not sure what the consensus is on them, but I think they look terrible.

Can anyone explain to me the hierarchy of all of these packs?

Seems like there are 30 different sets yearly now.

And ive heard on here that where you buy the sets aka "hobby box" or "retail" box influences what your get as well?

Hi guys I wanted to maybe start collecting O’Pee Chee rookie cards from some of the great players from the 1980’s. I just have a couple questions. Are cards that are PSA or Beckett graded between 6-8 still considered valuable? Do cards with gradings in this scale still appreciate in value? For example would a Brett Hull rookie PSA 8-9 still be considered a nice card to have? I’d love to collect some of these cards but obviously cannot afford anything graded really high. I’d love to get my dad a Lafleur rookie in the lower scale grading. Also, why are Topps rookie cards so much cheaper than O’Pee Chee? Thanks

For your PSA question, check eBay sold listings for any cards you are interested in seeing the value for.

eBay Search: Advanced Search

For OPC vs Topps, I think OPC is more valuable due to being the Canadian version of older cards and also I believe there are less OPC cards out there. I don't have much vintage so could be wrong.

What are yalls thoughts on buying a spot in a live break?

I'm interested in buying into a randomized team case break (6 boxes) of 19-20 The Cup from Dave and Adam's for $205, but is it worth the risk? I would just be buying a single spot.

I would buy my own box if it wasn't so expensive but no way in hell am I spending $1000+ on a single box lol.
depends on what you want and how much are you willing to gamble.

Random team for 200 vs $1200 for guaranteed cards.

I would pay more and bid on your favorite team. Easier to sell locally if you get a good hit. I lucked out once with NYR as my random team and then pulling Lafreniere young gun. Other times I got teams and players i didnt really care for (DAL, CGY, MTL)

6 boxes at a shot of getting players from your fav team > spending 1000+ on 6 The Cup cards.

Ended up giving the random group break for 6 boxes of "The Cup" a shot

Got Ottawa as my random team, then got a Brady Tkachuk limited logos patch auto with a nice looking patch and #'d 7/50 (his jersey number - so that's cool too). Based on what I've seen, that card won't get me my $200 back but it's still a really nice looking card for a player who is good lol so I'll take it. Could've been much much worse

Also could've been better tho, guy who got Quinn Hughes got the full letter "E" from his nameplate as well as a foundations quad jersey card for him and a Bo Horvat auto #'d to 12. NYR got 4 fight strap buttons that was randomized between them and NYI. But, I'm super happy I got something worth a damn lol and the excitement from it alone was worth the rest of the money I paid. Not sure if I'll do it again though, will probably pick a team the next time if I do, but the randomness is fun. Surprisingly Colorado, CBJ, and Chicago got shut out in the break.

I had that card, back when I used to get the magazine.

Was always disappointed they didn't have more hockey players in them, and this was always my favourite:

Recall the back mentioned Coffey's belief that wearing skates a couple sizes too small helped him skate. Not sure how true that is.
Wearing small skates is common practice now. You shouldn't be able to comfortably stand in them. When you bend your knees, your toes will curl back from the front.

Just noticed that prices are going stupid again after decades. I have a bunch of early 90's cards that probably aren't worth squat. I also have a bunch of pretty good 80's cards: Yzerman, Bourque, Fuhr, Francis, lot of good 2nd/3rd year cards for Gretzky, Kurri, Lemieux, etc etc etc but they aren't graded. Is is worthwhile to get them graded?

Post pics.

The prob with grading today is the cost and lead time. I've graded hundred of hockey cards and will not send any more in due to current conditions but can offer some advice if you have images.
