Yes I would love for my kid to excel in sports and get a scholarship. Wish I had got one too :)
Dope. Go play a sport where you're one traumatic injury away from a life in a dark room and/or bankruptcy (in America) for a kinesiology degree from the nation's 401st ranked educational institution while they make millions off you. Thanks dad!

call me crazy but after reading the dude's twitter it seems he's a huge NY sports fan and a fan of McKinnon. Two more years and you can sign with either the Rangers/Islanders or the Avalanche must be weighing on his mind, I don't blame him; it would be on mine as well. I think by the end of next week you either sign him or trade him in a package. Those are your only two options because if he goes back for year 3 then his value becomes less.
The guy was born on Long Island in Nassau County - no surprise he'd have an affinity for his hometown team. And he was a kid when MacKinnon entered the league - no surprise he'd be a fan of him.

I think reading anything more out of that is a little too speculative.

My buddy got a full ride on a golf scholarship. Seemed to work out well for him.

Not everyone is getting rides on football/hockey.

For sure, I know guys who've gone for Wrestling and rowing, girls who've gone for soccer and got full rides at Ivy league schools. My Aunt got offered a full ride at Cornell for hockey and didn't go (family crisis at the time) and regrets it.

Not all scholarships are created equal here. Guys who play Div I basketball or football are absolutely getting taken advantage of. I know plenty of guys and girls playing hockey get a good deal out of it but like I said, getting a kinesiology degree from UND isn't worth what they get out of their pro level Div I hockey. You can't play at that level and be guaranteed to get a great education.

Yeah, if you're playing on certain teams, they basically prohibit (or at least extremely strongly discourage) you from taking certain degree programmes.

You can get a scholarship in lots of "safe" sports: swimming, golf, track, tennis, crew, etc.

And unless you're going to a top 20-25 school, rankings don't matter (they only matter if you care about prestige, and only the top, top schools offer any prestige). The educational experience will be what you want it to be, whether you're at Florida State or the University of Detroit Mercy.

sadly, I think they’re right. The overripe approach will get old for a lot of prospects. Between playing in the AHL or NCAA (where you can earn an education at the same time) is more enticing than ‘earn your way to the top’ like Logan Brown.

who knows, this is the same management group that was towing a hard line with Colin white and asked him to first sign an ATO (which he did) only to sign him a few days later to an ELC. That was also very puzzling.
Please. If it was an issue then why did JBD just sign. Bunch of batherseasons in this thread right now

I’m not 100% convinced clearly. This is unexpected, everyone figured he’d turn pro. This was the year to go back and try to win the championship. What else is there for him at the NCAA level? He was also a bit of an over-ager, so he’s outgrown the WJC this past year.

I hope you’re right but I’m skeptical. And I’m not convinced if this wasn’t another team that Pinto would choose the same path.
Garrioch just said the expectation is pinto will be signed. If he does go back it’s most likely because he wants to forego the AHL. There’s no reason to fret over this either way

It's too early to worry but it's a testament to managements ineptitude that's it's in the back of all our minds.

The Senators are still seen as the joke of the league. No player is jumping at the opportunity to join the Senators.

But I think we sign him and if not bleh. Don't see this team going anywhere as long as Melnyk and Dorion are in charge anyway.

Aren’t you a hoot. My kid will forge his own path and I will support him. It could be ballet if that’s what he wants. Hockey too.

Also that full ride isn’t some sacrifice the school makes. Especially the American ones. It’s literally peanuts to them.

yeah I’ll buy that. Pierre McGuire also said it’s concerning that he wants to go back and would be weary but the primary reason to come out would be an opportunity to play in the NHL and I’m not sure we have that. So hence he probably is just going to sit tight but there’s not that many games left when all is said and done (if they end up making space for him or getting rid of some bodies)

It doesn’t tell you anything other than he might not want to play for ahl salary in small town Ontario. That’s complete speculation, if he doesn’t sign.

If he doesn't sign, it'd be interesting to know why. We'll never know, but hopefully it's because he loves UND and wants to enjoy college for another year, and not because he wants to bypass the AHL.

Pinto isn't the calibre of prospect that can just walk onto an NHL roster, and in all honestly, if that's his goal, next year might be his best chance.

If he waits another year, he could potentially be trying to make a roster with Stützle in his 2nd season as a C, Norris in his 3rd season, White + potentially a top-end pick from this year's draft (Beniers) + any free-agents/trade acquisitions we may add.

Next year, there could be much more of an opening and appetite to throw in another rookie. In 22/23, we'll be looking to compete, and it's harder to make a team that's looking to compete, even if you're a year older.
