If there was a true #1 D in this draft, he would have been taken way before #10, so I guess we're just going for depth here.

Still surprised Reinbacher and Simyshev (sp?) went so early, though...are they projected to be THAT good?

At the end of the Sportsnet broadcast, the panelists were asked to summarize what team they thought was the storyline of the draft.

The first two obviously picked Arizona and Chicago. The last guys, Jason Bukala’s answer: The Blues

He wasn’t a no-substance cheerleader either; he basically said that people don’t realize how incredibly well the Blues draft went and that they got 3 ELITE talents.

For what it’s worth, I was quite impressed with Jason even before this. Insightful comments throughout, not part of the hype echo chamber for every pick, balanced positives with criticism and wasn’t afraid to hold back in this regard (Ex while acknowledging Will Smith’s skill was still very critical of his tendency to blow the d zone way too early and said much of his game he will not get away with in the NHL). Seems like an honest guy who loves scouting.

I like this Jason guy already.

If Simashev's shot develops he can most definitely be a stud 1st pairing D-man. I'm not sold on Reinbacher.
Sounds on the mark.

Not saying either aren't quality defensemen nor that they didn't have 1st round talent, but I would assume if you pick a defenseman in the top 10 (or even top 5), you expect them to be an all-around #1 D who plays a ton of minutes. Again, not questioning their talent, but not sure either fits that #1 D mold right now.
