It's mind-boggling that the Trashers had higher quality streaming production than almost any team in the FPHL and that was close to 20 years ago.
I've watched major portions of three separate FPHL YouTube streams today/tonight (Motor City, Elmira, and Carolina). I found good video & audio quality on all channels, and above average camera work during gameplay. The only negatives of the webcasts were the Rockers & River Sharks broadcast teams, and in those cases you get what they pay for.

Division standings as the big crystal ball has dropped on The Fed ... 🕳️

Judging solely by the Streak stats, I might be inclined to believe this League has competitive balance throughout the teams; but the win points spreads tell a different story. Every time I've peeked in on FPHL play this season, it's seemed like their unbalanced schedule has been heavy on top team pairings & bottom dweller pairings. Small sample sizes at work, perhaps. :dunno:

The Fed has placed Daniel Amesbury on indefinite suspension, but provided no details as to why.

Yup, pretty ridculous.

Hat Tricks put up a support page and announced they will be trying to find him another role with the team absent Amesbury successfully getting the league to change their mind and let him play again.

Rumor is this has to do with his comments on podcasts during this suspension (no one seems to actually know for sure, this is just blind speculation), but far worse has happened in the Fed...

Hat Tricks have a support page up and announcement:

These Danbury radio joc's discussed & speculated ... Danbury Hockey Star Suspended and No One Seems to Know Why? | i95 Rock

ETA: Amesbury is also a repeat offender in the Fed League.
We live in a world where the FPHL takes player safety more seriously and is more willing to drop the hammer on guys than the NHL or AHL. And while the Fed is to be commended (knowing you dodged a bullet years back and might not be so lucky next time has a way of concentrating the mind) this is more a commentary on how appallingly awful both the NHL and AHL have been in this regard.

Apparently Amesbury signed with Fort Wayne.

Imagine a baseball player getting a lifetime ban from the Frontier League and signing with the Somerset Patriots the next day.

Nothing official yet. Apparently the E has concerns about him signing. Partial story from yesterday's FW paper:

Amesbury was suspended indefinitely by the Federal Prospects Hockey League, a low-A league, Monday as he neared the end of an 18-gane suspension for a hit to the head. The FPHL cited “the right to deny any personnel from participating in FPHL games if it’s deemed in the best interest of the league,” but didn’t elaborate.

Amesbury had two goals and 72 penalty minutes in nine games this season for the Danbury Hat Tricks, which said in a news release it didn’t agree with the indefinite suspension.

The ECHL is under no obligation to honor an FPHL suspension, but it’s possible the ECHL forces him to serve the remaining six games of his 18-game suspension before he can skate with any team.

Amesbury, known as “Diamond Hands,” has a large social media following – over 30,000 on Instagram – and co-hosts the "Talkin’ Trash" Podcast with A.J. Galante, who was general manager of the United Hockey League’s Danbury Trashers, the subject of the documentary “Untold: Crimes and Penalties” and a former opponent of the Komets.

Amesbury’s last stint at this level of hockey was 2013-14 with the Central Hockey League’s Denver Cutthroats. He had two goals, three points and 143 penalty minutes in 41 games. He also played 14 SPHL games that season with the Columbus Cottonmouths. He totaled 20 fights that season between the leagues.

And it's now official! But he has to complete his suspension before playing his first game with the Komets.

This thread needs way, way more Columbus River Dragons discussion. Wife and I are season ticket holders. Awesome team and classy organization from top to bottom.

Boys will be boys ... ditto their coaches?
FPHL CLARIFIES ITS DISCIPLINARY POLICY FROM JANUARY 4TH

January 22, 2024

Binghamton, NY: The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) would like to address the recent decision to make a change put out in its January 7th Press Statement.

It was not a "Rule Change" but a change in the discipline policy for certain actions that have been a serious issue across the league this season. This season the league has had issues with numerous teams allowing their coaches to send players into the game for violent physical attacks on opposing players. This has caused a large number of injuries to players and has created an unsafe environment for players and officials in the league. The league has always stressed the importance of player safety and has had countless discussions with all FPHL team owners in attempt to curb these violent acts. While hockey is a contact sport, it can still be played in a controlled manner with respect between opponents.

FPHL Director of Player Safety Dave Jackson has also reiterated his concern with this safety issue. ...

Why would anyone bash the FPHL? The guys play hard and it shows on the ice. Why would anyone bash that? If you go to games expecting NHL level talent I mean, welcome to minor league hockey?

So over the weekend the Columbus River Dragons scored 15 goals and had over a hundred shots on goal in two games and two wins. It was fun as hell to watch. Crowd was hopping!

Watching the FPHL is like watching the WWE. If you enjoy that type of hockey, that's fine. As for me, if I want to spend money watching a hockey game it won't be an FPHL game. I have plenty of other reasonably priced options (college, NAHL, ECHL, AHL) within reach. And I'll still comment on the relative lack of skill in the FPHL.

What does that even mean? I'm a pro wrestling fan so I know what the WWE is. There's very few fights in River Dragons games which is a complete 180 when the old Columbus Cottonmouths were in the ECHL and the SPHL and there were legit 5-8 fights EVERY GAME. There's not even one fight a game now in the FPHL at least with the River Dragons.

I don't know where you live but the Columbus team is the only reasonable option for my wife and I to watch live hockey. The River Dragons are honestly at least as good as an ECHL team and our record reflects it.

Not sure why you feel the need to comment on the lack of skill in the FPHL per your words. This is a high single A minor league we are talking about. It sounds you like have unrealistic expectations of what that means. I don't go to a similar baseball minor league and yell at why the players aren't throwing 105 mph fastballs or hitting 450 foot home runs.
