I doubt it will happen and Larkin will prob push the team to .500 the rest of the way.

But they still got 15 games to go here. If nothing changes and they go like 3-12 then you really have to wonder...at the very least lalonde should have a much shorter leash next season.

When your best player is a sub PPG center and when he gets hurt the dumpster fire turns into an inferno at the landfill you’re right this team is lost. I’m worried because I only see one blue chip prospect in the system (Big Ed who I can see winning Norris trophies). This team has a ton of middle six plugs and not much high end talent. Yzerman either needs to make a big trade for a top center in the off season or they need to start looking at if there’s a window for the Larkin lead team at all.

I love how in interviews he down plays the team. Nobody expected us to be in this spot. Like we already accomplished enough. That's gotta feel awful for the players. You're basically telling them they're terrible and shouldn't be in the playoffs. It's also a smart strategy for him to save his job, basically saying we overachieved this year.

I expect Tampa to lock up the 1st WC spot, so it comes down to Detroit, Washington Buffalo and the Islanders.

They still have a decent mathematical shot of making the playoffs. Unfortunately, losing every game makes the math a moot point.

This team is so frustrating. While Buffalo and Arizona and teams like it play all their youth we continue to play these God damn vets who are too slow to keep up and we lose against them. I am so sick of it. Whenever edvinsson is healthy (hopefully we get an update soon) they better just call him up because once again petry maata and ghost were terrible tonight. And there's 0 reason they didn't fall Kasper up instead of a 4th liner. I'd much rather let Kasper try centering kane then compher who seems so slow!

Lalonde for 2 years has kind of just thrown lines out there. Had mild expectations from management that he likes to remind the fans every time he gets interviewed but this stretch has shown just flat out bad coaching or at the very least not a leader of men. This is a huge minus to his reputation as a good or bad coach

Plus it’s his fault Edvinsson isn’t playing more this year.

Here's my read:

Yzerman knows he has unlimited time. He looks at the fact that he didn't play in a SCF until he was 30 and didn't win a cup until he was 32. He is in no rush.

He is slow playing the shit out of this rebuild. A lot of GMs push hard into rebuilds and rush players because they know they'll be fired if they don't make it in 3 years. That's how Buffalo got stuck in a permanent rebuild. Like, Benson should probably not be in the NHL this year.

Between ASP, Edvinsson, Cossa, Augustine, Danielson, and Kasper, Yzerman probably thinks he has the answers to the deficiencies on the team.

He went out in the off-season and signed flawed players who were jettisoned from their teams, just to fill out the roster.

This team wasn't supposed to make the playoffs. Does it suck for us to think we were in again and get the rug pulled out? It absolutely does. It makes the team look bad. But I think the outcome of this season is more in line with what Yzerman envisioned going into free agency and signing a bunch of B-level players.

It also lets him see what he has in his chosen coach, and IMO Lalonde is extremely lacking. He is a decent technical coach but the guy is a dead fish motivationally and always finds a way to say the worst possible thing. He has to be gone in the off-season.
