And that's a loser mentality. At some point, you need to take a major step forward. The end of Year 5 is more than enough time to be back in the playoffs, regardless of what Yerman inherited. Otherwise, what was the point of hiring him?

He's the ultimate competitor and losing is abhorrent to him. He should consider it a personal insult to have a head coach that routinely goes "well we weren't supposed to be here, our division is so good so we might not be back in a playoff race next year, etc"

When are you going to start demanding more from this team? In no way should missing the playoffs at the end of Year 5 of a rebuild be deemed acceptable.

I'm not saying I agree with it, saying that the "Yzerplan" wasn't to make the playoffs this year if you listen to what Lalonde and Yzerman say.

He had no problem whacking Guy Boucher when it became clear that the Lightning weren't going to get over the hump with him.

Why couldn't he do it with Lalonde, who has all of the intensity, motivation skills and fire of boiled celery?
