These two situations are not remotely similar.

The player got hit and went flying, how is that gross negligence? Was he supposed to not get hit during a game of hockey (which is a sport where hitting players is apart of the game)

Did you watch the video? He got hit and "went flying"? He initiated contact with another player in front of Johnson and, best case scenario completely lost control of his body, worst case scenario maliciously tried to interfere using his leg with the puck carrier(Johnson) which resulted in the incident.

The player did not get hit and did not go flying.

The player noticed he had over skated Johnson with the puck and whipped his leg out to impede Johnson .. just like he did in a previous CHL game.

While I dont know what happened in this instance after watching some of the playoffs and hearing people talk about intent I wonder if anyone really knows the physics of having a heavy object (skate) at the end of a pendulum (leg) and what happens to that when it gets hit with a pretty hard impact?
A leg isn’t a pendulum. It has multiple muscles, ligaments and tendons not to mention the joints thar control its movement. So you are seriously over simplifying it.
