Doesn’t mean he’s on his way over, but it does give them that option now. Haven’t heard if they’ve said so yet.

Still believe it was their intention, just months ago, that he spends another year in the SHL. However, after his playoff performance in the SHL, maybe he’s forced their hand somewhat, to ultimately bring him over and have him play next season in North America. There’s really not much more he can accomplish in Sweden but experience, and when that happens, it usually means it’s time for the next step, and that would be Grand Rapids.

One thing’s for certain. Detroit is almost forced to make moves within their prospect pool on defense, after signing 3 more dmen (Gibson, ASP, Buium) this Spring, adding to an already crowded pool.

Gibson will play in the OHL again due to age, which helps with one spot. Edvinsson and at least one other, likely Albert Johansson, will be in Detroit next season. McIssac and Newpower will be off the books. Viro is one who likely gets traded for a late round pick somewhere, and one other likely gets traded. Whether that’s Albert Johansson, Wallinder or Tuomisto. Anton Johansson can stay in Sweden for another year as well.

So they can make a spot for ASP in Grand Rapids, if they wanted/need to.

It’s a good problem to have when so many of your young draft choices have earned their ELC, and are NHL trending prospects.. Anton Johansson for example, would likely be signed with almost every other NHL team by now. You do have to be careful however, not to hold anyone back. If ASP is ready for Grand Rapids, and that’s the best spot for him next season, then that’s where he needs to be playing come October. Even if that means moving another D prospect via trade.

He said he's staying in the SHL one more year but will attend the Wings development camp. He quotes staying ”feels right”, and adds:

”Signing [the ELC] is a step on the way. The big dream is getting closer and closer.”

ASP, management, and fans are pretty happy here which is a win-win-win. And Swedish fans too. Not to mention he gets another crack to take over the WJC

1-2 more years in Sweden and then to GR to over ripen unless he really outperforms his peers.

Exciting prospect to follow. Has the tools to be a special player for the wings. Can’t wait to watch him wearing a winged wheel jersey.

Dude, I enjoy your write ups. I still think Wallinder will be part of a trade for a top 6 winger at some point, maybe paired with the first round pick.
