Bills planning bid to host 2028 NFL Draft

The Bills plan on bidding for the 2028 NFL Draft, which they would host at the new Highmark Stadium.

Good to show off the new stadium, but can't but think Downtown or the Falls would be cool too. Of course logistics is big.

$2M to sign the rookies
$5M allocated for in-season moves to replace injured players
$3M for roster moves, including a potential extension for Spencer Brown

How do you see any potential extensions factoring on this year's cap number?

Vikings signing WR Justin Jefferson to four-year, $140 million contract extension

Well...those are certainly some numbers.

Edit: Jefferson receives 89 million fully guaranteed at signing. That's a hell of a perk. Anyways. I'll be over here buying my own school supplies.

It’s kind of crazy that both the current best QB in the NFL (Mahomes) and best wide receiver in the NFL (Jefferson) were drafted with first round picks that belonged to the Buffalo Bills and neither player will ever play for Buffalo.

Correct. A little under. Here's what I see as our realistic cap situation:

Current Cap Space:	$11,183,904
Top 51->53	-$1,979,000 = $9,204,904
Signing Rookies	-$1,069,000 = $8,135,904
Actual Cap Space:	$8,135,904

But then there's the PS. Players on that count against the cap. A rookie, first, or second year players costs $216,000 for the season and a veteran costs up to $370,800 for the season. Let's assume 12/16 spots are kids and 4 are maximum vets. That's $4,075,200 for PS players.

So, doing some rounding, our functional actual usable cap space is about $4 million.

*That's excluding any space for in-season moves.

I should also add there's also potential savings in if players in the T53 don't make the team and get replaced by contracts outside the T53. For example, if Hardy makes the team as our returner, he has a cap hit of $830,000. Maybe he's competing against Hamler for that spot, whose cap hit is a zero-guaranteed $1,055,000. That cut and replace would free up nearly $200,000 in cap space. So if a handful of guys inside the T53 don't make the team, you maybe amass an extra million in cap space. Some bigger contracts to keep an eye out for here are Hollins (1.4 in cut savings) and Gilliam (1.8 in cut savings).

I'd say if we sign anyone, a Poona Ford is more likely than a Leonard Flloyd.

We could sign someone for ~3 million and it would only add about 2 to our cap because of the T53 replacement. I'd say that's probably about the limit without adding void years.
