He is unmovable, even if retaining was part of the conversation he's not waiving his NMC. I think he'll give them a sweetheart deal after next year to say "thanks for overpaying me by 25% for 7 years". He also may not be captain as soon as next season, it's Matthews' team

Leafs should just ride it out and then let him go when his contract is up. 11 million can be used somewhere else. Just an anchor at this point

if he resigns in Toronto for any more then 3 million the person signing him will be run out of town.
If he wants to play 3LW for 3 mill or less with the C gone ok, but otherwise, bye

Ride it out and have him take a hometown discount and give up the captaincy. Love him, but he’s begun his decline and is obviously worth nowhere near his contract. Still super clutch though.

Does Dubois have more negative value than Tavares these days? Jeez.
are you serious?
Dubios just put up a 40 point season and has a career high 63 with a Faceoff win % below 50% (Tavares was 59% this season)
Tavares in a 'down; season put up 65 points with 29 goals, which is also higher than PLD's career best

the Dubois contract is arguably the worst contract in the league right now.

Maybe NYI will take him back.. font see anyone else taking a chance.
Maybe To LA for Dubois++?
Isles fans can forever revel in the fact that his stint in toronto was an all-around disaster for him and the organization.
Oh, and we don't want any part of him.

Assuming Lou sticks around, he's kind of famous for re-acquiring players. Isles PP was one of their biggest problems. IDK, if TOR would take equal salary back and maybe an extra year for someone (JGP?), it might not be that crazy a thought. And it would be one heck of a Players Tribune article he'd have to write. :laugh:

Doubt he waives, he probably signs an extension for 4-5 million a year taking a discount.

Tavares might not be great in the playoffs but none of the core 4 have

4-5M per on a multi yr deal would NOT be a discount.
He will not be Corey Perry washed up when his deal is done buy he also wouldn't be making core player money in a couple yrs.
