NJD gets:

8th overall (Sam Dickinson), Brian Dumoulin+2025 4th

Seattle gets
10th overall, 2025 2nd+2025 2nd

Not specifically sure what Seattle's needs/wants are so went with picks instead. Happy to modify to find pieces that better fit Seattle's needs.

Dumoulin serves as a short term stopgap to Dickinson.

Devils can't trade their own 2025 2nd as it's still tied to the Jake Allen trade.

They can trade it as long as they put a condition on it.

IE: "If 2025 2nd happens to be transferred to Montreal as a result of the Allen trade, pick will become a 2026 2nd" something of that verbage.

Why not just make it easy? 8th overall and Dumoulin for 10th overall.

Or flip him 1/2 off for some kind of pick
We don't have alot of guys we'd have to worry about (unless using for a 3rd team in amo e at tdl)

1 yr left at a little over $3M for a Dman is not thst much of a cap dump to drop 2 pick spots in the top 10.

That means to unload him costs like 2 2nds

Taking on Dumoulin at 3 million is not a no-brainer IMO.
It is when you can move up in the draft and easily trade him with retention. You give up nothing to move up and still gain an asset by trading him.

Is Dumoulin considered a cap dump?? He just had a very good year.

Not really. But the poster I was quoting made it sound like it wasn't an easy decision. It 100% is an easy decision to move up.

No, he shouldn't be. He was very serviceable this past season. He is overpaid for what he brings, but he is on a one year expiring contract now, so he will have some value, albeit minimal (later 3rd or 4th imo).

If Francis is willing to retain 1M for the season, he'd have a bit more value and be a nice pickup for some team.

Yeah, when I was making the proposal I had him valued at like a 3rd
