“The First Omen” - surprisingly decent (as unnecessary prequels go). The muted, grimy 70s cinematography nicely matched the feel of the original. Good slow burn sense of dread, with some haunting imagery. Not your generic CGI-fest.

The lead, Nell Tiger Free (of M Night Shyamalan’s “Servant” and Cersei’s daughter in GoT) was really good.

XMen 97 S1 -- good but not great. Animation is mind-blowing, and I love all the new characters introduced (eg. Rogue, Nightcrawler), but the relationship between Professor X and Magneto is tiresome and was explored to death in the previous X-Men live-action films (eg. First Class, etc). Hopefully one of those two characters (or both) gets snuffed in future seasons.

I’ll have to give it another shot….was bored in the first episode….

Side notes…..Godzilla -1 was overhyped…..also I loved the latest Mad Max movie…..

These are a little old but I recommended to a friend recently. These are both very good movies (imo):

The Invitation 2015
Coherence 2013

Next on my list are:

The Coffee Table (2022 Spanish horror / black comedy) - edit this was disappointing.

Post Mortem 2022 - trailer on youtube. I've heard good things

Shogun - finally finished and I had a hunch they wouldnt actual show the big battle the whole series has been leading up to bc it seems they are on a low budget .. disappointing series and ending imo.

Fall House of Usher - finally finished, good throughout .. maybe 3.75/5?

----------

New show? Im so excited .. Eric? Bodkin? Ripley? Fallout? 3 body problem?

Fallout was a lot of fun. It’s different from The Last of Us in that Fallout doesn’t follow the video game storyline but it’s terrific nonetheless.

Ripley is really really good.
3 Body Problem - very good.
Fallout - needed a couple of episodes to get into it

Is fallout the video game an open world game?

my little brother was hyping the show, said the games is a lot like RDR, they even have a western themed Vegas area
It is, much more so than TLOU. Fallout is a bit of a slower burn as well.

One cool thing about Fallout is it’s very clear it was produced by Amazon because the level of violence and the detail to the carnage is almost a mirror image to The Boys. I think The Boys is more violent but there are some gnarly scenes in Fallout (in a good way).

Fallout? 3 body problem?
Fallout has been my favorite show of 2024 so far. Terrific show, lots of fun. Pretty goofy, but that's to be expected from the franchise.

3 Body Problem is worth watching, but has flaws. In adapting to both TV and Western audiences, they rewrote a lot and changed a bunch of characters, and that has plusses and minuses. The books aren't really a character drama, so the character drama elements in the show are kinda flat. Visuals and production value are a bit all over the place, sometimes great, sometimes looking like a 2005 SyFy channel movie. But it's still heady sci-fi, and if you enjoy big concept sci-fi it's worth watching.
