Anyone know where I can order an inexpensive half cage/power rack and weights?

Been looking online and the reasonably priced stuff is out of stock and plates are $2/lbs

I want to setup a home gym with the essentials but I want to keep it reasonable as it is not going to be my main setup once all this covid stuff is over.

I'd say to look on craigslist or kijiji. I'm not sure equipment companies would even do deliveries. Exercising is pretty essential but they closed the gyms, so I figure probably the same for gym equipment.
I think Walmart is still open as they sell food, not sure if other sections are open as well but you could go check there.

just wondering if anyone can help me out with proper technique to do squats and sit ups.

Do a few here and there and maybe work it into my routine an when things get back to normal, it will be easier to do.

No weights, but I do do random, somewhat workoutesque things holding my kids when they want to play.

I've just seen some do arms crossed over their chest for sit ups, or crunches (yeah I'm the much of a noob) and hands behind their head, or neck. It just works things out slightly ?

Thanks. Now to get back to getting beat up and jumped on by kids.

I picked up a kettlebell from a jiu jitsu buddy, because of course he had a spare kettlebell. I like it. I will keep using them.

Damn I'm not sure if that's a good routine, I'm that out if shape, or both.

For a snack I'm eating grapes, watermelon, bananas, berries and the odd thing of chips as chips are delicious. I've had trail mix before, too.

Is there any other food that's surprisingly good for you as a snack ? I also have yogurt.

Or what I've mentioned isnt really the best for you.

I've switched from white to whole wheat bread.

I've given up pop unless we go out(which we can't) or if we order something once a month, which isnt too bad ?

Would protein powder and stuff matter at this point, or just wait until I'm more consistent and don't buy that stuff just incase I lose interest/focus and have wasted that money ?

I wouldn't follow anything coming from ''bowflex''. Guy says planking is recovery...the hell is he babbling about? Lol. His guy trainer is also in bad position during it, he's collapsing. Then they have squat jumps but the girl isn't squatting, she's hinging...

Anyways, I think I'm just so sick of bodyweight workouts so I'm hating. They're so freaking boring. I need to do some weight training!

Protein Power isn't expensive and always useful, get it. Stick with it. We have at least another month of this garbage situation.

I was reading about it on the popeyes website and it sounded like something that everyone should be using if true.

I don't know much about it at all, so it could really be a placebo.

Protein powder is good. I wouldn't be able to reach my target protein intake without it so if you're like me then go for it. My go to's post workout are yogurt parfaits with fruit and granola or cereal, nuts, eggs and my personal favorite is homemade beef jerky.

Jerky is actually probably the best protein snack out there if you cut down on the spices and salts. It's easy to make with a dehydrator (everyone should get one), relatively cheap and it's very low fat and carb. Get a huge roast at Costco, remove the fat, cut it lean, mix the cure and dehydrate on the lowest setting for 24 hours.

Without knowing more about you and your current diet, it's hard to tell what would be good or bad for you but theirs tons of really tasty, high protein snacks out there if that's what you're after. Healthy doesn't have to be bland.

As for exercise, I always recommend cycling for those who are out of shape. It's a low impact exercise that works your cardio, legs and core (upper body too if MTB). Mountain biking is also a bunch of fun, it's social and cheap after you make the initial investment so you won't get bored and you'll stay motivated which is the real key. If doing weights, go low weight high rep initially.

Was not aware of your situation, sorry about that. Start with less intensity positions that are manageable, takes time to build up to certain levels. For some aerobic intensity, jump rope and do jumping jacks and modify as you can increase your ability. Rome wasn't built in a day they say, baby steps, good luck.

Was merely attempting to demonstrate that there are a lot of options in ways to get fit.Everybody has different needs and or goals. I thought that the video regime was pretty easy and is only a few minutes of a partial workout. In your case it sounds like you want to add muscle mass for no apparent reason aside form being larger unless you have a mandate that requires it.

I use to eat and drink a lot of pop and junk food.

I drink pretty much only water now (with mio, or mio like and try to put a little less in each time).

Switched from white bread to whole wheat.

I enjoy yogurt with Oatmeal Crisp cereal mixed in as a snack. Trying to stick to grapes and other fruits.

For lunch, it's usually the bad meal where it could be hot dogs, pogos, and sometimes soup.

We eat a lot of meat and most of that is chicken. Pasta is always quite common, but with the nice weather it will be burgers.

I know pasta isnt the best and I've heard chicken isnt even that good for you, but then another one says it's fine.

Cutting out pop and trying to eat a banana, or something healthier I've noticed a difference already. I figure once I eat a bit healthier consistently it might help me sleep better.

Some of the protein shakes smell like they would taste really good, so it could be like a treat that's healthy.

Ya tons of ways to train, not shooting them down. Important to move.
Just saying for me, I love weight training and it has nothing to do with wanting more muscle mass. I don't want to add mass, already big enough as it is, improving strength though is always fun and I've lost a lot of it. I won't get it back with bodyweight HIIT routines either, that's more muscle endurance.
But anything that gets you moving is good now.

All those small changes will add up quick man. You're off to a good start. Pop and junkfood are tough to cut out initially but once you do, you won't miss em. That's a huge step in the right direction.

As for chicken and pasta, they absolutely can be healthy. Pasta is high in carbs though so generally not great for weight loss but that doesn't mean you can't have any. Hotdogs and stuff aren't ideal but whatever. Cut down when you can but don't let it discourage you. Have a smaller lunch if it's unhealthy and bigger dinner or breakfast. Easy. That's where the shakes can be handy too since they're kinda filling and can replace the 2nd burger or hotdog you'd usually have

As for the protein shakes, I'd say yes, give it a go. I get the 6lb combat bag from Costco for like 35$. I know their are better ones out there but it tastes really good (bit sweet though), doesn't give me gas and the ingredients seem fine.

I developed a bit of a beer gut this this winter so I'm trying fasting and it's giving me good results. I don't eat past 8pm, wake up at 8 am and do weights for 45-60 minutes. I'll then have a protein shake because I'm extremely hungry at that point, go cycling (high intensity hill climb for 40 minutes) and then have brunch. It's a bit intense but I have nothing else to do rn anyways. I can tell it's burning quite a bit of fat just by how I feel after I do it. Worth a shot.

Just a bit of advice/guidance. In no way am I the authority on this stuff but just sharing what works for me. Sounds like you're on the right track though so keep it up.

For me, it's kind of the opposite. Every year I go through the same thing. I weight train for about 6 months and just get so, so sick and tired of it. I find it absolutely mind-numbing. I cycle a ton and climb mountains with my dog every other weekend in the warmer months which is way more interesting to me so I stay in relatively good shape but I fluctuate like 20 lbs seasonally. I just have that fear of looking like a cyclist or marathon runner so I have to force myself to hit the weight room.

I don't think everybody should be using it. Really just boils down to your goals and how you're currently eating. If you're eating enough protein through your nutrition, then it's completely pointless to get.

Don't ever take a supplement shop's words for their products. They obviously have everything to gain from making the public feel like everyone needs some of their products.

Popcorn is surprisingly healthy among snack foods. It has a tonne of fibre and protein, so far as empty calories go.

Protein powder is for everyone. Of all the macronutrients, protein is the hardest to come by in a relatively pure form. So having the ability to get 25 grams of protein without anything else in it is useful and worth the money. However, it's not food. It's just something to help make hitting your daily macros easier.

But finally, knowing how many calories you actually eat/need is where all the gains are. It's not so much that some foods are good for you and others are bad. That is true at some level. But from a weight gain/loss perspective, some foods are just easier to get carried away with and give you less room for error. Some foods help you out by filling you up with fewer calories. For example, you can eat as much spinach and broccoli as you please. You cannot physically ram enough broccoli through your digestive tract in a day to push you over your daily caloric needs. Trail mix, in comparison is also ''good for you.'' It has healthy fats and dried fruits! It has 533 calories per 100 grams, too. Meaning you could religiously follow your diet otherwise, and completely ruin it with a couple handfuls.

But you still need to measure your caloric intake precisely, otherwise you're just completely in the dark.

Any youtube body weight vids you recommend? I'm almost 50 now in ok shape. I'm looking for something to do at home in 20 mins or less. Kinda busy around here now. Lots of traffic. Thanks in advance.

That's good news with popcorn.

It's nothing for me to eat healthy, but then ruin it with 4, or 5 hot dogs with a pop, or two at supper and then a drumstick, or something afterwards.

I know another poster who's giving me advice said themselves they don't have anything after 8pm, didn't suggest it to me, but I believe I've heard that eating late, or shortly before bed isnt the best.

With breakfast, lunch and supper, I think I heard breakfast is supposed to be big, lunch and supper are medium ?

Another improvement is, I use to almost never eat breakfast just because I didn't really have time.

I'll also say I can't eat the yolks when it's cooked. Probably egg whites if they're good, but definitely not the yolks unless it's mixed in to some food. The sulphur just makes me really sick.

I think the ''not eating anything after 6pm'' or whatever is probably a very small thing. You can totally skip breakfast. Some people are just calling it ''time restricted eating'' now. It's what the kids are doing these days.

But the biggest thing is the calories (30-40% of your calories from protein). Weigh your food, be consistent. And if you fall of the bandwagon like the bolded, don't worry about it. In fact, enjoy it. Just get right back on the horse the next day. Just like you can't really diet in one day, you also can't f*** a diet up in one day.

I'm actually starting my summer cut tomorrow. Here's what I'm doing: eating 2200 calories, 190 grams of protein, monitoring my weight every morning, and bodyfat every 2 weeks. That's it. It's actually pretty easy.

It's all about making small changes. Pop can be replaced with juice or even better having a soda stream could kill that craving. Instead of having multiple hot dogs when you BBQ, you could get sausage without bun or another piece of meat altogether and have healthy stuffed mushroom caps, asparagus or veggies in a wok.

Doesn't mean you have to eat 100% healthy. I know I don't.
