What happens if Isles go 0-1-1 and the other teams go 2-0. No playoffs for us I’m guessing. I’m looking at all the scenarios and I don’t see how NYI has 95 percent chance of getting in.

Yeah Sid not the crybaby he used to

If the Capitals go 2-0 and the Isles goes 0-1-1, they'd be tied with the Islanders and it would come down to the tie-breaker, which the Islanders would lose so the Islanders would fall to the wild card.

If Pittsburgh goes 2-0 and the Isles goes 0-1-1 they'd still be one point behind the Islanders.

If Detroit goes 2-0 and the Isles goes 0-1-1 they'd be tied with the Islanders and it would come down to the tie-breaker, which the Islanders would lose so the Islanders would be knocked out of the playoffs unless Washington fails to win a game.

The most important thing for the Islanders is that Washington doesn't win, followed by Detroit not winning. Since Pittsbugh gives the Islanders more ways to get in they're less of a concern, but a regulation loss next game and a Pittsburgh win would mean that the final game of the season could determine which of them is going to the playoffs.

For tonight the only game that matters to us is Vegas and Colorado I think. If Vegas can win they'll still have a shot to overtake Nashville for the WC1 spot, giving Nashville something to play for tomorrow night against Pittsburgh.

Varly, but with a tight leash.

I think it would be glorious if the used-Rags win the President's Trophy, and then we beat them out in the 1st round.

LGI!!
Why is Varly on a tight leash? He’s been one of the main reasons the Isles are in the playoff (hunt). Also, Varly in the playoffs has performed better than Sorokin. He’s a starter on most teams, he’s not some 2B that’s playing over his head.

Sorokin since the Carolina series has been mediocre and deflating to the team with weak goals against and the lack of timely saves. He played well his last two outings.

However, the team is much more stable right now with Varly in net. With Sorokin, the team was jittery.

Resigning Varly was shunned by most fans (not this one), bc it was a given Sorokin was more than enough. Turns out, Lou knows goaltending.

I consider this playoff hockey, and that is how I would do it. For both goalies.

I agree that the team seems to being playing better for Varly, but I don't expect that Sorokin will be out of the mix for long. Too good of a pedigree. I think he is getting a bit of a rest, which he sorely needed.

In fact, I think EVERYONE should be on a tight leash. It got a bit too country-clubbish for a while there, for my liking.

this team has zero chance of winning a cup if Varly is in the net, and maybe a 1% chance of winning if Sorokin is in net and that is provided he turns to how he was in previous years and everything else goes right for the Islanders, so yea maybe start with Varly and if he underperforms put in Sorokin and hope he has a fire under his ass and has something to prove

Roy will let the goalies settle it with their play. Give Varly game one. Someone is going to have to steal some games to beat the Canes if were fortunate to make the dance

Roy has a history (and thus likely more trust) in Varly at this point, especially considering his play as of late.

Varly stepping up like this needs to be ridden.

And honestly, it's a good thing for Sorokin too. I don't think his feet ever left the ground, but it's good to experience that you will be pushed down the totem pole if you're not delivering as expected.

I'm not seeing a 95 percent chance of Isles making it here. Don't know how ABC came up with this stat after Last game on Saturday.

Just bought tickets for Canes' round 1 home game 3 (likely series game 5). Hopefully against the Isles!

95% is what money puck is saying for the isles playoff odds.

If they win 1 of the next 2 games, theyre in the playoffs, 95% chance makes sense.

They can actually lose both of their games and still have a chance at making it. A lot of things would have to go wrong for the Isles to miss.

And I believe the 95% are not "odds" per se but actually percentage based on probability.

Hoping for an Islander win today and a Ranger loss. And Carolina win tomorrow.
Right here with you. I want a Isles/Rangers first round matchup.

The league should institute a vote in process for the final two playoff spots. If your fan base believes you have less than 3% chance of the winning the Cup, then the four closest teams can vote on who should get in vs not.

How do you think that vote will go?

Good idea. We can also expedite things if the majority of a fanbase believes they "will get destroyed" in the first round. The other team will get a bye and no need to play the games. Also, if most of the fanbase believes "we're not winning the cup anyway" then they get eliminated from the playoffs, saving the fans unnecessary grief.

There is alot of meaning to the chaser's games as far as their opponents needing wins or just other random things. Statistically DET is likely to lose a game, home and home series are just total death as far as attempting to win both games when its b2b...even when the team who is home 1st wins that game they lose game 2 the next night 82% of the time. Kevin Weekes had mentioned that one saying DET was better off having the 1st one in MTL where even if they lose MTL does not have last line change/home ice in the 2nd game. WSH is on a b2b vs Philly and Philly no matter what will probably wanna play spoiler if WSH wins tonight. PIT has to play a NSH team that wants to get VAN vs DAL too...there is just a ton of incentive and meaning to many of the teams chasing games that it makes it probably a bit harder than usual even going 0-2 to miss.
