Always enjoy a win.

Still can't help but feel this will be the most boring of all the first round series (though I missed CAR / NYI). The pace and intensity of FL / TB and COL / WPG has been insane. Even BOS / TOR was entertaining, if you focus on hits and game speed.

If we can avoid the usual making things far, far harder on ourselves than it needs to be and going to the Ranger Special of yet another Game 7, I will take a boring series and lap it up with a soup spoon.

Let the other series go long and arduous with D being worn down over six or seven and hopefully let us come out of Round 1 with lots of mileage left in the tank.

For me, the 3 stars were Artemiy Panarin, Matt Rempe and Braden Schneider.

Panarin was a man possessed all game long. Going to the middle of the ice, making things happen, creating offense and even getting double-shifted in the 2nd period.

Rempe, well... What can we possibly say about this kid? The impact he has had is enormous. Not just the goal, but also the change in mindset he triggers with opponents.

And Schneider deserves a lot of credit for the way he handled himself against Tom Wilson on multiple occasions. That Miller-Schneider pairing just works.

I wonder which 5 he's referring to. When we scored three goals in the 2nd? Or some point during the first 12-15 of the 3rd when the Caps didn't register a SOG despite having a PP in there?
willy is frustrated because he's not the shit stirrer - Rempe is. And good god did the Rangers dominate the play 5 on 5 and denied the caps anything at all on the powerplay. Rangers pp will find its sharpness again after a few days off.

Can't argue with the result. 2nd was a lot of fun. Enjoyed the edge the Rangers brought - keep hitting their defensemen... they have 3 NHL calibre ones left?

I'm sure the caps will adjust and step up their own physicality next game. Hopefully the Rangers don't think they are playing on easy mode now.
No doubt the caps up their physical play but I bet the Rangers respond even harder. This Rangers team riled up is much harder to play against then this roster coasting. And it's hard for the caps to change their play too much because they need to stifle and delay and keep chances at both ends low. That becomes harder if they're chasing hits.

loved their willingness to throw borderline hits. the Caps tried to amp up their physical play but it did nothing, Rangers were totally unbothered.

there wasn't much to say about yesterday, the Caps basically had no chance from puck drop and the Rangers didn't even play particularly well. just keep it up and hopefully we have a short series.

This is the exact reason fans love this guy. Dude is legit having the time of his life. We're all like that if we ever got a shot to do this. You hear it in his voice.

Every fan says they'd love to have a run on their favorite team. It's your dream as a kid. This wasn't his favorite team as a kid, but his dream was to be an NHLer and man he's become one.

You wonder, if this kind of personality comes out in draft meetings. You need skills, but a guy like this is infectious in the room. Yeah he's a little goofy right now, but he's 21, what should we expect?

They love him because he fights, hits. and has caused some injuries. The same reasons why the same people hate Wilson and why Caps fans love Wilson..

I kind of feel like the whole Rempemania is going to put a lot of pressure on this kid to be great and if he turns out to be less than spectacular it's going to mess with him majorly.
He's already helping the team. I actually think he's not letting it get to his head. He just smiles like a goofball who wants to hit someone.

There is always going to be a debate around whether 4th liners should be in or out of the lineup. I wouldn't say it's a middle finger to those who debate that.

Goodrow and Vesey were also great today, but when they inevitably have 3/4 quiet games in a row, people will want to change them out (as will the coach in all likelihood).

That being said, the conversation we all need to be agreeing on is Roslovic coming out. TBH Brodz is better than him and worth a shot on that second line again if Chytil can't go. He's at least somewhat defensively responsible.
Dude is Enver Lisin 2.0. Has all the skills that make it look like he should be good, but with absolutely zero sense for the game.

He won’t be our 1st pair with Fox but Schneider has the chance to evolve into a top pairing d-man this post season.

I do not take anything from this game.

We looked better against Jersey last playoffs for 2 games. We looked better than Tampa 2 playoffs ago.

I hope they remember that. Yes, Washington is a lesser team but you still have to show up. We also don’t have Gallant, so there’s that.

They won 4-1 and utterly dominated the second and third period. Who didn't show up?

That entire board is an embarrassment. It’s utterly hilarious what that fanbase has become.

You hate to see it.
I wouldn't throw stones in glass houses. This board does the same thing. In all honesty when I read the original post I thought it was this board that was being talked about.

Ovechkin faced Adam Fox two and a half minutes more than any other Rangers defenseman.

With both of them on the ice, the Capitals didn't have a shot on goal.

Fox having a normal one.
That's insane. They should just rename the Norris Trophy The Fox

I'm sure there is a segment of fans who fit that mold, but I wouldn't paint everyone with that brush. There are people who loved, and still love, Avery. I hated him then and I still hate him now. He was an embarrassment to this organization.

Rempe is just a likeable kid and most of us don't want to see him go over the line. I don't even care about the fighting. It's entertaining to a point, but I'd rather he just grind on the 4th line, lay some big, clean hits, and chip in the occasional goal. I'm about winning, and him wearing down the defense and cycling the puck on the forecheck will do more to help us win than a million fights.

And really, like, who cares if they run Washington out in 5 games? They are a pretender.

This team isn't supposed to be satisfied winning a round. Let's look like we are primed to beat Carolina and then one of Boston/Florida/Tampa/Toronto.

Step 1 down, so far so good, but I agree, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

This game was much better than game 1 in Jersey and both games against Tampa. Not even close.

We played one legitimately good game against Jersey out of seven. Game 2 was good. Game 6 we stole. Game 1 was alright and mostly Vanacek shitting himself. I hate the narrative that we stopped showing up. We just got our asses kicked.
