Confirmed Trade: [MTL/VAN] Tanner Pearson and 2025 3rd round pick for Casey DeSmith

He wasn't that good for Pittsbugh but still better than a lot of teams goaltenders. Teams probably weren't willing to give up a 3rd for another goaltender that early. And then have to find a spot for the goaltender he would replace.

That was the notion. Flip Pearson and get an extra asset. He started out okay, but he's cooked. No great loss. They had the space to maximize the pick they got. DeSmith didn't have much value otherwise and Montreal didn't have much bargaining power in what was a 4 goalie logjam at the time.

? The pick was the main asset. Pearson was a cap dump. Habs got a third dumping a goalie when they had four.

And did it again with Allen when we had to move one.

The main asset for Montreal was the pick, they had to carry Pearson's salary to dump DeSmith. Montreal already had three goalies to carry on the roster.

DeSmith gave Vancouver some good starts this year, but they also kicked him to the curb for their third stringer Silovs when Demko went down.

I'm sure both teams are content with this deal.

Montreal bought a draft pick. They paid whatever the difference was in terms of real dollars to buy a third round pick. That’s smart to do when you aren’t a competitive team.

Warm body with a cap hit we didn't care about. Would have been nice if he performed well and was able to net and additional pick, but oh well.

It's not like he really blocked anyone from making the team at the start of the year.

Monahan turned out to be an absolute coup as they turned him into two first rounders.

The Pearson and dadonov experiments produced nothing, however. Dadonov was a strange case though because he seems to have fit well as a peice on a cup contender. But he didn't look very good in Montreal.... perhaps he was disinterested knowing he would get moved regardless.

He'd have a good game every 1 in 5, but I think disinterested is putting it mildly. That said, he wasn't so much a reclamation project as he was the contract they had to take back to get rid of Weber's contract.
