He's played poorly for the past like 30 games, after signing a massive contract. The criticism is justified

If he was getting fair criticism, it would be fine, but the fanbase has reached a delusional level of hate for him. He had 25 points in his last 33 games of the season while playing with bottom 6 linemates. I doubt you can name another playmaking forward who plays without an offensive player on his line 5v5. It's unprecedented, and he is being set up for failure and it has likely killed his confidence.
