Tomorrow will be interesting for sure. To me, it looks like Matt has that personality or whatever that will keep him from choking, but we really have not seen him in this position before, so we really have no idea how he will handle sleeping on a lead (if in fact the lead holds up) and having to do that long wait before tee time. Meanwhile, Fat Pat is doing his choke job as I type & I don't trust Bryson enough at this point either.

I think Rory would be the one to watch tomorrow if someone is going to make a move.

Rory or Louis would be the two I think to come from behind for sure

Yeah, I don't know, I don't trust the young guy sleeping/teeing off on the lead.

Like even Morikawa started 2 back in a pack of players at the PGA. No real pressure/expectations in that spot as a young player. When you're fired up and playing well on the back nine you make a run.

That is much, much different than sleeping on the lead at Winged Foot.

I'd love to see him win though.

Big stroke dropped by Thickie Fowler on 18, thought he would get it up and down.

Wolff starts Sunday with 2 shot lead

Amazing that Wolff shot 65 hitting only 2/14 fairways. Between Bryson and him they’ve hit 29 out of 84 fairways for the week. 12/42 for Wolff for the week.

Reed showed with that back nine it’s easy for the course to get the best of a player. No lead is safe.

I picked Schauffele at the start of the week, I’ll stay with him.

It’s anyone’s game going into tomorrow. I’d love to see Xander finally win one as he always seems to be playing great golf week in week out. Bryson and Wolfe have mastered Winged Foot throughout 54 holes, but to finish the last 18 just as well is a whole new monster. Let’s see if these two youngsters with very interesting swings can hold their nerves.

Louis OO is another player I’d like to see win as he’s been knocking on the door several times for his second major since winning the claret jug a decade ago.

Also, has it actually been 6 years since Rory last won a major....wow who would’ve ever though that. Maybe tomorrow will finally be the end of the drought.

I know a lot aren't sure if Wolff can hold a lead, but one thing thats going in his favor is the lack of fans. That'll help him out today. It helped Morikawa at the PGA.

The senior leadership at Winged Foot is furious at how the course has been set up by the USGA, from what I heard from a member. I would not be surprised if this is the last major round on this course for a long time, or ever. There was already a rift after 2006 that caused it to take so many years to come back. There's a pride competition thing with the top courses, and they don't want -5 and multiple players breaking par on their course, especially when the USGA has held it back. They take this stuff seriously. The greens are playing slow and USGA hasn't used many of the tougher hole locations.

The early scores are not too terrible. I could see most of the guys in the top 5 shooting E to -3 or so today based on these scores so far

The USGA has been awful with setups for several years now, ever since they started caving to all the whiners on the tour. I know weather conditions had an affect on Pebble last June, but it was disgraceful that the USGA did nothing as far as making the set up more difficult to counter those conditions.

Having a meltdown over this scoring is ridiculous. You have two of the longest hitters on tour playing out of their mind, and everyone else is over par?

Seems like the setup worked great to me.

@MrFunnyWobbl

I think you are a little off on a few things.

1. I wouldn't say anyone's playing out of their mind. How many fairways have any of these guys hit? They are hitting it as far as they can, and having good weeks scrambling. I don't think anyone's in such great control of the golf ball. It's not like this is DJ's level of play from a few weeks ago in Boston where he was -30, didn't miss a shot, and probably played the best tournament of his career.

2. I don't think anyone would lose their mind if someone played the week of their career, was under par, and beat everyone by five. But you have two guys under par, you had over 20 guys under par on day one, you had multiple scoring records set this week already for this golf course in a US Open.

3. The course really just isn't set up that difficult compared to how it can be. The greens can be so much faster than they've been. The USGA has held this course back. Thats why people are angry. There have been multiple pin positions they didn't use this week. The Round one pin positions were dumb. They put them in a position where if you were out of position, that actually set you up better to come into these greens because you'd be able to better utilize the slopes with the ball on the ground than if you were in the fairway. Rewarded bomb and gauge.

4. Another reason people are so upset is that this course is supposed to be one of the 2-3 years in the USGA rotation where we see carnage. Winged Foot, Oakmont, and maybe a very tough year at Shinnecock or Pinehurst are the only chances we get to see these guys really struggle. When you hold back one of your most difficult venues, fans are going to be upset.

4. If you don't believe any of this, what's your explanation for the huge difference in scores this week as opposed to prior US Opens on this course? Have the players gotten close to ten shots better from even 14 years ago?
