Even if the Rags beat the Canes (I agree that momentum is now on their side), they will get absolutely smoked by Florida.

They've swept a dreadful Caps team and are only just now having to face adversity.

Also, I'd just like to add that Zach Parise is likely done without ever getting a cup. Karma is a bitch.

gotta admire the "want to go play home" story but doesn't take a home team discount to help build a winning roster. aka JT on the leafs

The canes ain't winning 4 in a row and the league won't have it either. So I still have 0 hope. But it's nice they are extending the series a bit.
I think they win Game 6 to force Game 7 but yeah...I have a feeling Rags escape with a Game 7 win.

At least they'll be tired, battered, and bruised for Florida to run them over.

JT didn't take a hometown discount really, other than the one less year on his contract than he would have gotten with the Islanders. That doesn't really help the cap number though. Zach kinda took a discount, but not to help the team win - to get Suter a matching contract lolol.

Yeah I'm still not feeling 2004 Boston Red Sox vibes from this yet either...but if it does happen then forget about Rod leaving lolz

Does any player ever take enough of a discount for it to matter? A guy making $8 who could have gotten $8.5 took a discount but unless six other do the same thing it won’t make any real difference except in very narrow circumstances.

No, the most meaningful discount you can usually get is something like the Hughes or Hischier contracts where they were willing to commit long-term at a lower AAV than they would get today. But in both cases they weren't really worth that yet when they signed them, and neither is actually buying that many UFA years.

As you said, you would need 4-5 guys to take $500k less just to sign one Miles Wood contract.

It’s a continuation of game 3 though. Just a straight line from what they did to the Avs there. But without both Nichushkin and Toews tonight it’s only so much worse. On Saturday Dallas controlled the game. Tonight you’d call them dominant. They’ve crushed Denver from the puck drop.

Early, when Makar turned that puck over for the shorthanded goal, I thought what would this board be saying if Luke Hughes did that. Shit happens.
I didn’t think they looked quite defeated last game. I figured they’d bounce back last night and get the win and tie the series back up, but they looked fried. Probably after the Nichushkin stuff. He had NINE goals (playoffs leader in goals for the entire league) this playoffs already.

So what’s that, 7 of their last 9 games Dallas has won now after going down 2 games to 0 against Vegas?

They’re definitely as hot as the Panthers and Rangers right now. I think they’ll crush Vancouver if Edmonton doesn’t take their heads out of their asses and get rid of them first.

If you remember last year they fell apart offensively after Nichuskin had the incident in the hotel and had to leave.

Stars are the most complete team in the league for my money. With oettinger playing well their only real weakness is their 6D, and that’s more of a problem because deboer doesn’t trust lundqvist rather than him being actually bad.

They have 3 very good lines, a 4th line that isn’t a total embarrassment, and two really good defense pairings with the luxury of a (much reduced but still useful) Suter on the 3rd pairing.

Panthers are also great obviously, but I think their forward depth is a little worse.

my remaining team rooting interests:

don’t want to win:

rags - obviously
canes - obviously
bruins - because f*** em
colorado - boo parise, will appreciate him never winning or ever coming closer than he did with us here before bailing

want to win:

vancouver - so quinn doesn’t have anything left to play for there and can come join his bros guilt free
edmonton - henrique

would be ok but generally indifferent:

dallas - deboer and pavelski deserve it, but also f*** suter
florida - good team, they’re dirt bags but i don’t have a strong opinion

does anyone know why ranger fans put dollar bills on the boards in the corners?
asked my cousin who is a STH. he said that he’s met the guy, who is a season ticket holder with glass seats. that guy had a grandpa who was very superstitious and always used $2 bills for good luck. he’s been putting them on the glass in big games since since his grandpa passed in 2014ish, brings a bunch and passes them out to other fans.

f*** the rangers but that’s wholesome AF.
