One thing those numbers aren't, are a defensive defenseman.

The opposite of BB = a defensive defenseman.

Also look at BB numbers when he entered the NHL = not particularly explosive.

And like I said the first game I watched all yr were Thurs.
College is a whole different ball of wax. There are hundreds of guys who put up points in the NCAA, then once they get to the NHL became defensive specialists. Brendan Smith, Nick Jensen and Mikey Anderson are some that come to mind.

I'm not saying Faber won't eventually put up points too, but so far his style of play in the NHL isn't reminiscent of Brent Burns.

You think he would make Team USA if there was a best on best tournament this year?

Hughes-Fox
Werenski-McAvoy
Slavin-Carlson? (He's a mainstay usually)

Then you have this group fighting for 1-2 spots
Hanifin
Sanderson
L. Hughes
Trouba
Harley
K. Miller
Faber

I think it would be really hard for him to make it, but I don't think it would be impossible

Faber is a revelation. What I don't understand is how the Gophers lost to Q? Faber plus Cooley, Knies, Snug, Lacombe, Johnson , I didn't see the game but jeez that was a wagon.

Faber didn't see the ice in OT. Coach started a different pair and it was over first shift iirc.

Opposite of Brent Burns is controlled and deliberate in style.
Brent Burns style was a bull in a China shop. Not at all similar.

Being very good in the offensive zone doesn't make him like Burns. They play completely different games.

I find it fun Brock wants this glasses be part of his brand but then on the ice he gots his visor over his helmet.

I don't know why the NHL even makes them wear them. Faber, like a number of other players I see, literally might as well just unscrew his because the thing covers absolutely no part of his eyes.

I can very much see a day down the Rd we have another Bryan Berard incident - a much higher likelihood that happening again w the way these guys wear their mask than another Malarchuk incident.

Yes, but he never played forward in junior.
He did Leading up to the draft actually.

Started @ D in Juniors, but moved to Wing the season prior to the draft, Shot up the draft board as a wing & Drafted as a wing.

Started with the Wild as a RW as a result. It was Lemaire who put him back on D for the 1st time in over 2 years in his 2nd year with the Wild.

Burns then played his OHL career as a right wing with the Brampton Battalion in the 2002–03 season. He led the team in playoff scoring that season with five goals and six assists in 11 games. Burns was runner-up for Most Improved Player in the OHL as voted on by the leagues coaches.
OHL Site still Shows him as a RW as a result

This feels like I good time to point out that Burns was a guy who didn't put up many points in juniors, especially for his position (RW), but was drafted in the 1st round due to his "tools", and ended up having a HHoF worthy career after a position change. Sometimes it works, so let's go Stramel!

So Stramel to defense? :sarcasm:

So what type of player does Liam Ohgren have to turn into for the Wild to win this trade?

The cap benefits of Faber’s contract already make the trade a win (unless he drops off in play the next 2 seasons). The $7M in additional cap that the team is benefiting from right now is huge.

Still think we could’ve got a little bit more from LA though.

Yeah, I really liked Fiala, and having a 2nd line of Rossi, Fiala, and Boldy would be crazy, but having a great skating, strong, solid RH top pairing guy on an ELC certainly makes that dream easier to forget. Adding Ohgren(hopefully a middle six NHL'er at least)makes the trade a winner for us, in our spot. I can see LAK being happy with Fiala, though, considering the spot that they are in. Will be funny in Faber ends up being better than the much hyped Clarke, though.

If he doesn’t have a significant drop off in his game, what kind of deal would you all be okay with him getting in the offseason? I do think you absolutely get him extended early & on a long-term deal. Our cap projections over the next 3 seasons don’t really make sense for a bridge deal (for either him or Rossi).

I think you start around $6M for 7/8 years. Pretty big guarantee for one year of experience & expires at a good UFA age for both parties.

Wait and see how much the cap is projected to go up, and how is game holds up for at least a part of next year. If it's more of the same as far as the latter, and the cap looks to be going up in 1.5-2M/year increments, then I'd be fine with a 8/56M contract. He might be leaving money on the table, but that contract would buy out two RFA years.

Getting Faber signed longterm, assuming he is what he appears to be, a top pairing, if not #1Dman, would be the way to go.

If his agent gets greedy and wants 9M/year, then you bridge him.

Ideally, $7Mx8 years.

I could see him getting $8Mx8 years if the cap is going up.

Anything below $7M per year is a steal in my eyes.

Hard to believe there were people here who had Addison ahead of Faber. Page 1 is an adventure
