I haven't been watching too much of late but saw a lot of their games early on in the season until Norlinder got injured. Their D seemed like a strength and I know they are among the worst teams in the league for goals per game, as I believe they are 3rd worst.
They were insanely stingy defensively for a long time, then all of a sudden they lost 7-1 against bottom-dweller Brynäs, 8-0 against Växjö and 5-1 against Djurgården within a short time span.
It’s no surprise to me that losing Lasch, Rhakshani and Fagemo is being felt for them this season, but I had a hunch they wouldn’t be able to keep those early defensive numbers up (because they were allowing like 17 shots per game on average, and I personally don’t think Niklas Rubin is as good as his numbers have implied). There has also been, in my opinion, an obvious transition period for players and teams to align with a stricter enforcement of obstruction penalties. I think that it’s about half and half, who’s benefited or struggled with these changes. Not sure where Frölunda is found in all of this, but it seems to me that scoring is up.
Uh, kind of lost my train of thought, but back to the point: it’s also a weird season where all teams are hurting financially so it’s apparent that teams are looking for players where they can get them for cheap. Not sure how signing Sigalet is a symptom of this, but perhaps Frölunda is looking into shedding some other contract.
Point is: Frölunda is a strong team on paper that is struggling with its defensive consistency as of late, so I understand the signing of Sigalet in particular. If a team in the SHL is allowing 3-4 goals per game, they don’t usually look to prop up their offense.
