The quotes going in are encouraging, especially Stammer talking about taking discounts. If we were to pay him his market value, we'll be no better off than we would without him in terms of being able to afford the support players necessary to be an actual contender. We'll need Hedman to take a discount too.

Boston got a huge gift from Bergeron for his last contract. He was coming off a 6.5 AAV deal and a 65 point season and resigned for one year at 2.5 and gave them a 58 point season. I wouldn't expect Stammer to go that low, but the chances of this team becoming a contender again are going to revolve around what it takes to keep him.

I figured if they've already talked to Hedman about it, they'll do them the same day again.

I could see both talking about lining up their contracts so they both retire at the same time. Stammer takes 3 years and Heddy takes 2 (has 1 year left on current deal)

Yeah, agreed, especially on those last sentences. Ideally we would want him to stay and then sign another impact player or two -- one offensive, one defensive. Need money.

From exit interviews Brisebois said he talked briefly with Stammer after Game 5 (April 29th), and spoke with his agent April 30th "very preliminary" to check schedules. That's as much as we know right now.

Can we even imagine this team without Stamkos? Really hope a team-friendly deal works out.

Stammer showed he's still got it, what a monster playoffs from him, even if it was 5 games.

Part of me can't help but wonder if part of JBB's strategy was seeing if Stamkos would start declining this year and use that in negotiations. 40 goals and 5 in the playoffs, and here we are.

Really hope we can get it done.
