Thats a lie and you know it...That being said is Nichushkin operating heavy machinery that can kill other people?

Just a terrible hot take...
As someone who is also DOT regulated, that is absolutely not a lie. Perhaps you misunderstood: he can get a job at McDonalds, but his CDL is torched on the spot. Don't have so much faith in things you think you know.

I got a sad sinking feeling when I heard the news. I make my share of jokes out here and like to goof around. This goes way beyond hockey.

Addiction is a matter of life and death. I've been sober almost 28 years. I've carried a bunch of good people out of churches in boxes

For an addict, nothing else matters when the drug, drink, bet, porn site, etc has that stranglehold on you. We don't love our wives and kids and jobs any less--we just can't stop even if we want to

Yes there is a certain responsibility on the user but until I entered a 12 step recovery program, I wasn't capable of taking the action necessary to stay sober

If you want a drink, or whatever, have one, if you NEED one, get help. We can't do it alone. As a recovering alcoholic, I suggest this guy and anyone else struggling need prayer.
Best take in this thread. As someone also in recovery for 10+ years, I second everything you said. It is a beast and we can't do it alone.

Stopped reading at "the US being a third world country regarding workers' rights....".

Go spend some time inside actual 3rd world countries' workplaces, note how workers are treated, and what rights they have. Then re-read your statement. You'll die from embarrassment.
The amount of "dude bro its just a plant lmao 420/24/7, no I'm not addicted I can like totally stop whenever I want, I just need to recreationally use it daily everyday to get me through my day, but I'm totally not addicted lmao, wtf this is literally worse than Afghanistan under Taliban rule" esque comments in this thread makes me feel like I should be drug tested for crazy pills.

He was caught with a heavily intoxicated women in his hotel room. To avoid punishment he entered the assistance program. Part of that program is counseling and testing. He has failed multiple tests and is facing the consequences. This isn't a random test, it's not for safety reasons. It's the program he agreed to enter to avoid other consequences and perhaps because he needed the help, and to continue being paid.
Where does the heavy machinery come in???

The poster said he can't get another job. He can.

Can you tell me what license Nichushkin holds to play hockey?

These are just terrible hot takes.

I see people comparing licensed and regulated positions to Nichushkin like Nichushkin is flying a plane on drugs.

These are just terrible hot takes.

About 2% of the jobs in the world are regulated or licensed and hockey isn't one of them and shouldn't be. Stop comparing yourself to Nichushkin, you ain't him.

Its amazing how people don't understand the difference between operating heavy machinery on a public road and playing hockey.

Its laughable.

People get a bitter chip on their shoulder that millionaire television hockey pros should have the same work rules as them at their 9 to 5.

Ok, I'm gonna break this down for you, Barney style. If I go too fast, respond to this comment explaining exactly what you're unclear on, and I'll try again to go even slower. Ready?

He has a job.

Currently, a requirement of his job is to p*ss clean.

He knew/knows that.

If he didn't accept that, he could quit his job.

He chose not to do so and accept that requirement.

So he implicitly agreed to p*ss clean.

He failed to do so.

That is a violation of his job.

He is now in trouble for that violation.

In summary, he knew it was requirement to p*ss clean. He agreed to that. He failed to do so. He is now in trouble for that failure.

Hope this helps to alleviate your confusion. Reach out if this was too complicated.

Indeed. Stoner logic, social media hyperbole, and absolute ignorance on how their own world works let alone how most of the world lives beyond the travel selfies of whoever they're following on IG makes for some bizarro, seriously absurd reading.

Grant Fuhr coked out of his mind winning stanley cups and is in the HHOF.

You should lead the charge to have him removed.

Edmonton should forfeit their stanley cups. I will sign your petition. Let me know when you got it started.

I will say it doesn't look like buying out Nichushkin's contract would be crippling. Hell the next two seasons basically wouldn't hurt them at all, and they would only have 5m in dead cap for two seasons in the late 2020s - at which time they're probably gearing up for a rebuild anyway. And the early 30s they'll basically be carrying a 4th liner in dead cap with a whole decade of cap jumps to soften the blow.

Employers don't want an impaired person getting hurt on the job, stealing to support their habit, stuff like that. Freedom comes with responsibility. The employee has the option of not taking a job with a company if they don't like it's policies. If you aren't doing anything wrong, you don't have to worry
Huh? That seems like a weird leap.

Oh trust me, I worked in a few places where people were on drugs and management knew and did nothing about it.

Heck pretty much 50% of the hospitality industry is on some kind of drug while they are working.

You should try to get them fired. How dare they!

Ok, you're next for drug testing lol

That's not an argument, you're just straight up ignoring your own argument and changing the topic of conversation.

Also, I specifically said to reply if you required a simplification of the actual argument I was making, not inviting you to reply with... well... whatever your comment is.

What a weird flex. Almost like you're trying to say that it's a good thing to be on drugs.

So in other words......you still don't understand.
We should start of list of anyone who ever played hockey on a substance and start a movement to revoke their stats and stanley cup rings.

How dare they!

What a weird flex. Almost like you're trying to say that it's a good thing to be on drugs.
What a terrible hot take. Its almost like you are bragging minimum wage people should be fired for taking substances.

You should start a movement for sports that anyone past or present should have their stats removed and championships revoked.

Am i right? How dare they.

If a guy is in a union that has an established employee assistance program? No.
Depends. I work in a DOT regulated job, and drug/alcohol tests are common and frequent. Employee assistance only saves your job if you enroll  before you get tested. You can't test and then panic and enroll. It's zero tolerance. You test and fail, you're applying at McDonalds. Simple as.

i've seen addicts steal out of registers, walk merchandise out the back door and rummage through co-workers purses.

for a person desperate to feed the habit, nothing and nobody will stand in the way, by hook or by crook
That's a tiny, minuscule percentage. You act like most or many addicts do that. It's not a common thing at all. Your take is... Strange and that's me putting it as nicely as possible.
