He's an idiot at this point.

It's not that difficult. Move Rust or Zucker down to L3 and you have two players who can play a decent defense, if that's what he wants, and put Puustinen or Nylander with Malkin to see what they have.

But no, if you're a call-up, you better be great defensively because you're playing in the bottom six with heavy defensive deployment and nothing else.

And when you get sent down the reason is "he didn't produce enough offense"

That's what I say, and I do this at my M11 highest category level. if we call up a player, he ain't gonna be placed with my weaker ones, I want to strengthen the team as much as possible.

I'm really surprised we won 2 cups with him, heck even in Boston he was a choker in the playoffs, finished 1st and lost in the 1st round

In reality, the only Cup where we actually looked like a dominant team was 2016. We won the Cup in 2017 because our goalies decided to play at a Conn Smythe level and our scoring was incredibly opportunistic. But if you look exclusively at how the team performed, we were routinely outshot/outplayed.

So in his entire tenure in Pittsburgh, Sullivan's teams have been outplayed the vast majority of their playoff series.

He's not this coaching savant his fans and the local media want to make him out to be.

The very best thing Sullivan did was come in and... uh... do the exact opposite of everything he's doing, now.

It's almost like you never ever marry yourself to an NHL coach because they all can't help but succumb to their own ego eventually. I mean... provided they start winning. Don't put these guys' name on the back of your jersey, ya know? Penguins fans can't seem to help themselves, though. They like to come up with these strange mind-bending alternate realities where the guy behind the bench is on the same level as like Sid and Malkin.

I have not watched WBS all year, can someone briefly describe Puustinen’s game? My only frame of reference was that one game he got called up and I believe he assisted on a Carter goal?

Stereotypical undersized but skilled Finn? Back to back 20 goal seasons in the AHL implies he has a nose for the net and not just a playmaker?

From the extremely small sample size I've caught, he seems to do well on the PP with a one timer from the circle. Of his 20 goals, 11 have been on the power play, so he's got a good shot at least.

He kinda reminds of a slightly quicker, better passing verison Petr Skyora, his shot his probably his best asset, he can really gun shots and bury just about anything on power plays, he's a really fun guy to get tabs on.

Sounds like he'll really shine for 8ish minutes with Teddy Blueger.

Does he PK?

He’s not seeing the light of day on the NHL squad because he’s not a defense first player who PKs…So it doesn’t really matter how good his shot is…Sullivan could have McDavid and if he didn’t play north south and was committed to defense first, he’d be on the bench most of the game lol

right God forbid to ruin that PK that got scored 14 times in last 15 games...only if we had Teddy to help that PK
People love to scream about Domingue, but the PK is every bit the reason the Pens pissed away that series against the Rangers than anything/anyone else.

But we love our PK specialists. It takes a real special player to put himself or his stick in passing/shooting lanes.
