Who are the 2nd line players available? Laine could be interesting with the right price/cap finagling.

From an early October article regarding the new extensions. Hammer.....meet nail. I can't wait until Billy gets all grumpy and defensive when asked a hard question about his decisions.

Russo and Smith: Wild boss Bill Guerin stands by his core, but he better be right

Guerin believes in his guys, and he’s put his money where his mouth is by locking up most regulars to multiyear deals. If this eventually ends up in a Stanley Cup boat parade down the Mississippi, Guerin will look like a decisive, go-with-your-gut exec whose loyalty is rewarded.

But if not, the Wild could remain in that murky middle, competitive but not really a contender, and won’t have much cap room for what was supposed to be a spending spree when the Parise-Suter buyout cap hits expire.

It really could have gone either way. Most mid 30s hockey players don't start slowing down or having injury issues, it's usually a sound decision to give those guys as much term as you can. And you wanna give them trade protection too so they feel more secure and play more loosely.

You wait until later in the season to see if Foligno sucks like he did last year. Or make the others play a bit and sing for their dinner. You don't give them the moon and stars before the season even starts.

We're gonna finally have some cap relief, but one or two of those are most likely gonna be additional buyouts.
