Sounds cool, I'd love to try my hand at it, but I didn't participate or follow previous ones.

Is the draft one a set date, and 2hrs per pick or total? Just wanna make sure I can commit as well

If you don't mind sending short lists, then committing should be relatively easy. Depends on how much effort you wanna put into it too. A bunch of us chat about our upcoming picks and bounce thoughts around. Some have massive spreadsheets of stats. Others have their own ideas and stick to just that.

It starts whenever we’re ready and then the clock is two hours per pick. It usually lasts a good 3-4 weeks.

  • Any currently unsigned NHL drafted prospect, or 2023 NHL Draft Eligible player may be chosen and have their contract be 0.925M
  • Euros who are not NHL affiliated are not permitted to be drafted unless they had a contract for this season i.e. Datsyuk, but those that are affiliated can be. Affiliated = signed, or drafted.

absolutely not

"Players unable to sign a valid contract allowing them to play in the NHL for the majority of the upcoming 2023-24 NHL season shall not be considered eligible. This means that players currently slated to play this upcoming season in the KHL, NCAA, SEL, Swiss-A, etc shall not be considered eligible. Examples of ineligible players include Michkov, Nikishin and Cooley."

none of this bullshit that the current rules allow where people will discount a player because they won't be in the NHL even if they're better than some of the drafted plugs

It’s literally copy and pasted from last draft

why don't you just like.. not draft them if you know everyone discounts them
because not everyone does, and this lack of common understanding exacerbates voting issues within the game

you have a choice between Michkov, Dorofeyev and Podkolzin

depending upon your interpretation of the game's current set of rules, you can argue that
(1) Michkov is the better pick because he's a better player, or
(2) Podkolzin/Dorofeyev are the better picks because they're actually playing in NHL this upcoming season

this game is supposed to be about who's the better player, not which interpretation is correct

so if we just control for this variable, then we need only be concerned about Podkolzin vs Dorofeyev

"Draft the most competitive team for the 2023-2024 season with the following rules"

let's say I take Cooley, Michkov and Nikishin instead of Poehling, Podkolzin and Gudbranson

we all know that in a vacuum, the following is true:
Cooley > Poehling
Michkov > Podkolzin
Nikishin > Gudbranson

if you're a voter evaluating my team, do you
(1) discount my three players because they won't be playing any or majority of their actual seasons in NHL (so how can they help make my NHL roster competitive if they aren't there), or
(2) treat them as if they were playing their seasons on my fantasy NHL team (since they're eligible so they are fantasy NHL players for this fantasy game)

because right now people do both, and it's incoherent and undermines the game even if people aren't aware of it

I'll regret it, but sure...sign me the heck up. Haven't done one of these in a while, but they're always fun.

Gimme Philly or something. Whatever needs filled i guess.

I mean, I agree with you. I just don't have the energy to complain about how players are interpreted when this whole draft is otherwise based on... how players are interpreted
