Sorry to those who wanted to sign a big free agent this offseason.

"The Blackhawks know they have to get Connor Bedard some help next season even with Taylor Hall returning. But Davidson’s larger goal isn’t expected to change. He doesn’t want to leverage the present for the future.

So, what does that mean? From what I’m hearing, the Blackhawks probably aren’t going to be players for the biggest free agents next offseason. If you were dreaming of someone like William Nylander, you’re probably going to be disappointed."

How can't you believe it? It's literally the worst collection of players I have ever seen on a Blackhawks team, and that's saying something. It amazes me that people are surprised we are one of the worst teams in the league.
I see how they are bad. But we don't make other teams earn it. We could at least muddy it up for other teams. Go down with some fight.

I feel like if they didn't have the injuries that they now have (Hall, AA, Seth Jones, Tyler Johnson etc) and if Perry hadn't have done whatever it is that caused them to terminate his contract, the Hawks would muddy it up for other teams a hell of a lot more often than what they are able to do now. The roster has to be filled with JAG's now because of the injury bug.

The only other big free agent available would be Reinhart and he’s probably getting extended as well, so there likely won’t be any to sign.

But if Davidson’s plan is mostly to re-sign garbage like Raddysh and sign more crappy fourth liners like Donato, then yeah I’ll be losing some faith in him.

Stamkos, Kane, Nylander, Guentzel, to a lesser extent since he is having a so so year.. Lindholm.

But yeah, more likely to see signings of guys on prove it deals or guys that didn't get what they wanted long term on a short term high $$ contract.

I feel like this is what will happen to Max Domi. Could see him coming here on a mid-term deal as things haven't drastically improved his value in Toronto.

we have lost 2 of our 3 best players and really the only other top line players after bedard. we were going to be bad but injuries have really taken a toll. that said bowman kept changing paths every year and that would get us to back 1/2 of the lottery. you really need to stay the course. The guys that might sign with us are players in early 30's 32 + who are not getting Long term deals so maybe they take a bigger payout with the hawks. I know guys want to win but they are more then likely never going to make more money then now. an extra $5mil over 2 years is quite a bit of money to leave on the table. another guy that could make sense in kunzitsen (washington) with a sweetner.

Any NHL team loses 7 players they gonna be hurting…

Would signing Anders Bjork be an option? He played well last year and is contributing in Rockford?

I like your roster. Domi would probably come back, but I would imagine that he is going to wanting more term after taking shorter deals the last two seasons?

Samsonov could have been a good free add off waivers. Not saying that he has played well at all and Jones' success is making that look even worse. But, he is only 26 years old with 150 games under his belt and a 84-24-19 record. If there are off-ice issues with him that would change things.

Love the Cole signing as a vet.

Having more of an NHL roster next year would benefit development for all the young guys. Don't forget to add Celebrini or Lindstrom to the mix?!

I can't believe how easy this team is to play against. How many times can you get dominated with nobody especially in your bottom 6 or d pair are trying to mix it up or take a run at a guy. Reese Johnson and Entwistle are lucky to be in the league, they should be running guys starting scrums trying to show some value, they haven't even been hitting lately. Tinordi hasn't pasted a guy in awhile has horrible balance and loses one on one battles constantly for a big guy. Tyler Johnson is straight garbage so is Blackwell after his 1st game vs the avs. The only guys I'd keep next year Bedard, Kurashev (has potential but disapears) Vlasic, Dickinson, and Foligno. Everyone else except for prospects like Korchinski and Reichel are on the bubble.
i disagree tyler johnson is not garbage.

Please! Send Donato 4th line Celebrini 3rd line center. Dont Resign Katchouk/Entwistle/Johnson.

Definitely not stuck on Samsonov but figured upside is there.

Can't see him being any worse than some of the jabronis that they have in the lineup at the moment.

if any of these guys make it to market i think they might be worth taking a swing at:
Hanifin
Lindholm
Montour
Roy
Pesce
Sprong
DeBrusk
Roslovic
i'm neutral or hostile to any other name i've looked at, and i wouldn't sign any of them to massive deals. ideally, the older they are the shorter the term. you don't want anyone you don't see on the team long term locked in for 3+ years at 3+ million dollars.

i looked at hockey reference for about a half hour instead of doing things i should have been doing instead. i looked at the career on ice special teams scoring for every skater on the roster as of today except for megna because he only just got here.

this roster has a total of 4364gp between them across 101 collective nhl seasons. in those games, they have been on the ice for 413 power play goals for and 627 power play goals against. that's .09ppgf/gp and .14 ppga/gp, or 7.38 ppgf / 82 games and 11.48 ppga / 82 games. to put in perspective that 82 game projection is 49% what the team has currently scored and 36% of what they've allowed in 38 games.

what does this mean? the team has very very little talent experienced in special teams at an nhl level. you would not expect this group to only allow 11.48 powerplay goals across a full 82 game season. that number is the result of bunch of nhl games with no pk time. the same is true of the pp. this collection of players, put very simply, can not ice an nhl special teams unit.

This next stretch is going to be one for the ages. Take a photo of the lineup and save it whenever someone refers to any subsequent team as the worst in nhl history.

A likely look at the roster, and how I'd project them out on any team that was remotely trying to compete, forget Stanley Cup contender or even a locked in playoff team, just any of the 28 or so teams not openly tanking as hard as possible. I'm not even taking into account contracts or any of that here.

Forwards:

Dickinson - third line center
Kurashev - third line winger
Donato - fourth liner
Blackwell - plug/13th or 14th forward/possible waiver fodder
Entwistle - plug/13th or 14th forward/possible waiver fodder

Reichel - Sent down/AHLer
Guttman - Call up/AHLer with healthy lineup

R. Johnson - waiver fodder
Katchouk - waiver fodder

Sanford - waiver fodder/AHLer
Pitlick- AHLer
Seney - AHLer

Defense:

Vlasic - rookie, solid 2nd pair defensive defenseman
Murphy - #5 defenseman

Tinordi - plug/7th defenseman/possible waiver fodder
Zaitsev - plug/7th defeseman/possible waiver fodder

Korchinski - assigned back to Juniors

Megna - waiver fodder/AHLer

Goalie:

Mrazek - Decent enough starting goalie
Soderblom - Call up/AHLer

Believe it or not? After 40 games and a record of 12-26-2 both Blackhawks goalies have tied their win totals from last season!
Mrazek with 10 and Soderblom with 2…crazy?

this year's blackhawks have 2 players over 20 points, and 6 other players on pace to score 20 points with half the season to go. of these 6 other players, tyler johnson, jones, and raddysh, are injured.

for two season in a row, from 2013-14 to 2014-15, the buffalo sabres finished with 8 players at or above 20 points. if you had to make a bet, would you bet on the hawks having more, fewer, or equal 20 point scorers this season?
BONUS: do the hawks have 20 point scorers more fewer or equal to 16 between this season and the next?

For me it’s always about how many 20+ goal scorers we have or potentially have

Last year after Kane and Domi were traded I thought the Hawks wouldn’t have any…but both TRaddysh and AAthanasiou scored 20…this year?
