Here’s my spreadsheet for upcoming UFAs, each team’s cap situation, and a trade tracker. I update the spreadsheet daily. I use CapFriendly to create this list and AFP Analytics for the contract projections.

Edit: Spreadsheet has been updated with AFP's latest projections and I added a new section for RFAs.

Here's how we can fit everyone.

Pettersson out entire season due to ACL and MCL tears from post all star break.
Boeser out entire season dealing with blood clot.

LTIR Vegas mode.

Pretty sure Joshua is playing hurt. He took a big shot block in game 2 or 3 against Nashville and hasn't looked the same since.
He might be. But keep in mind that most players are playing hurt to some extent during the playoffs, and it’s a bit of a dangerous game excuse some players for their play but not others.

I think once the season is over we'll get a list of what these guys have been playing with. Doesn't excuse all of their performances, but definitely provides some context.

Ya, but not everything is always disclosed. Like, Henrik Sedin played through incredibly painful back issues and I dint recall hearing much about it at the time. But if you listen to Bieksa talk about it now the injury was pretty debilitating.

There is also the fact that been able to play well through an injury is also important.

Not saying injuries are not relevant. But they seem to be more of a footnote when it’s a good playing playing well through the injury.

I want him back too but let's be honest. 6x6 has a high chance of being the next Gudbranson. I don't like that risk. Would much rather overpay Lindholm than Zaddy.

zadorov is turning into a folk hero (after i type this i'm going to hop onto a betting app to see what the odds are for an anytime goal from him tonight)... but he really is not a $6m defenseman.

anything more than $20m on this next contract or more than 3 years is very risky. and it sounds like that's about half of what he's asking for.

That has Myers written all over it. If Zadorov wants to stay, he needs to give somewhere, be it term or dollar. We can't make the Benning mistake of just giving out everything and hoping for the best.

Any long term signing is risky, but what on earth makes you think more than 3 years is "very risky" for this guy? he's almost 6 months younger than Elia Lindholm and people are tripping over themselves to sign him for 7 or 8 years at a materially higher cap hit. I threw out the Willie Mitchell comp earlier (partly to illustrate % of cap), but Zadorov is a lot bigger, tougher, more durable and has way better offensive skills. Mitchell, despite the concussion history, won a cup with LA at 35.

Zadorov is an old school Alpha predator. He hits like a train, is solid defensively and chips in at a top 4 clip at ES. I think he'll get close $5mm/5+ years and he's worth that IMO as he's capable of anchoring a 2nd pairing and eating a big chunk of PK minutes. The idea that he's going to suddenly turn into a pumpkin in three years is based in nothing resembling reality IMO.

It kind of hilarious you bring up Gudbranson. He's had exactly one full season that he didn't look like absolute garbage....hell he was even a + player and chipped in offensively. His d-partner that season was Zadorov. Dudbranson (totally intended), managed to get himself and LTD in Columbus the following year....where he's predictably returned to playing like garbage. In conclusion, not only is Zadorov not going to end up like Gudbranson, for an entire season, he made Gurbranson look like he wasn't Gudbranson. He's the anti Gurbranson.

I will just say it, pawn Pettersson's performance off as some type of injury and get rid of this guy. There have been far too many extended stretches of give-no-f***s, pouty hockey since he's been here. Just shocking to see a top 10 player turn into a total zero on multiple occasions.

OUT:
Lafferty
Cole
DeSmith- its just Silovs is here to stay
Mik- trade him somehow

Hronek - less than 5m or trade him for assets

Re-sign: Zadorov

Myers - on the fence, check Free agency for better options first
Lindholm - if its reasonable cap hit then bring him back

EP - making too much for what he brought in the playoffs. If there's good deal available, canucks should be open to trading him

- Would like canucks to offer a package if B tkachuk is available.

now they have to try and make us better with a tighter cap and losing key players

Will be borderline impossible unless a prospect pops off. They simply don’t have enough cap space to bring this group back and improve it in any meaningful way. Will require extensive surgery to the core roster and then all bets are off since you have no clue what a team with extensive renovations will even look like.

We shouldn’t try to bring the group back. Spend money on true talent, let 4th line be kid line, fill out roster with vets that have speed that can forecheck hard.

You'll have no idea how that will translate on the ice. Usually, teams in this position, build on something. Turning the group over outside of like 5 guys means you are just hoping it works out, you have no guarantee Tocchet will mesh with new guys, no guarantee on line chemistry, almost fully turning over the blue line. Like, do you think this has a high probability of success? If they could build on this team in some way I'd be far more optimistic.

Allvin is sharpening his scalpel to begin surgery. We know they aren't afraid to make big moves. It'll be an interesting off season.

i don't think next year is that bleak. the currently signed group (i'm omitting guys who can be buried with little consequence like pdg and juulsen) is:

pettersson (11.6)
miller (8)
hughes (7.85)
boeser (6.65)
demko (5)
garland (4.95)
mikheyev (4.75)
soucy (3.25)
the ghost of oel (2.35)
suter (1.6)
hoglander (1.1)

that's ~57m with the cap probably being ~88m. that's 31m to add 13 players and there's probably 3-5 guys already signed you can slot in at or around league min if you want (silovs, pdg, aman, bains, etc)

obviously moving mikheyev would be ideal and there's some work to do to either move hronek or get his number down to something reasonable but even if they're stuck with mikheyev and hronek comes in with an arb award around 7.5m that's still 23m to spend. they can get a top 6 winger or two and a couple decent dmen for that easy. they can probably fit in lindholm too if you think it's worth it at whatever he ends up getting

the biggest problem is that they have a ton of work to do to find some *cheap* talent to fill out the roster. they gotta do better than blueger, lafferty, myers, cole, etc

(edit: the real biggest problem is how thin the farm looks. i'm not a raty believer and guys like sasson, mueller, bains, felton, mcward don't really project as much more than depth. lots of hopes and dreams on lekkerimaki and willander's shoulders)

That’s an awful idea.

There’s no issue with bringing the group back, or at least the portions of it that work. We need to build on this team. And, a kid line? That’s not what I want to see for my 4th line at all.
