So much better than Yams in same spot. Holloway has the speed and jam to get to pucks but destroy opposition and then the hands to make something happen in cycle. As others have mentioned I hope Holloway becomes a permanent on Drai line and that Drai realizes what he's got here as a buzzsaw player. I would certainly keep Holloway where he is and even increase minutes. The compete level Holloway is showing, I love it. Spotting some Tikkanen in this player. His defensive game is growing as he gains confidence.
He needs to shit talk more and be a pest but that will come as the game starts to slowdown for him.

Crazy how we completely dominated Vancouver last night and they still almost pulled off the comeback. I guess the clock finally struck midnight on their luck. Vancouver's ability to score in bunches is what kept them successful.

I like Holloway there as well, and have been a fan of him for a long time. He could become a pretty decent complimentary player on the 2nd line. He isn't a line driver, but with Drai on that line, he doesn't need to be. He does a bunch of things really well, such as speed and forecheck and hit, and has enough skill to not be useless on a scoring line. He doesn't have a LOT of skill though, so we have to expect long stretches of low scoring from him. He likely never scores 20+ in the league, or does it once or twice at most. He seems like a 15-17 goal/year guy, who has lots of other good elements to his game as said above.

It depends how you define skill.
Is Holloway a sniper...I dont think so but he does have other offensive skills.
The things I like about him...
He doesnt fade in big moments. He has good hands in tight. He has a nose for the net.
Lastly I think that his speed is a weapon as well because (unlike McLeod) he uses it to enhance his offensive game by making himself vulnerable going into tough areas of the ice.
If he can add in a net front presense (not unlike Hyman who is exactly the same size as Holloway) then I do think that he can be a 20 goal scorer.

Felt sorry for McLeod there. The guy cares and has compete level far beyond what hes' being credited with here generally on the board.
I am probably overly deferential to the players and being sympathetic. But yeah, suspect he was pretty aware of "I just had a huge gaffe, and they scored and now are back in it with momentum"

He definitely doesn't need me to point it out to him lol.

OT, but I finally watched the HNIC highlights of the Hurricanes game 6 against the Rangers.

Unreal how Singh actually calls a good game when the Oilers aren’t involved. His goal calls were on point for once.

… I also noticed HNIC chose Bartlett over Singh/Debrusk to call Rangers/Panthers. That’s an interesting decision considering Singh/Debrusk are supposed to be their #2 crew.

"LETS GO PETEY"

I think my favourite part of last night was when their fans were cycling through half hearted chants of their favourite player's names as they were generating zilch at the start of the third in some faint attempt to get them to do something, anything.

The "Let's go Petey" chants were the most pathetic, embarrassing and hilarious thing I think I've ever heard. This isn't Rudy, this is an $11M feature scorer that is too soft to play at this level and basically stopped playing as soon as he signed his extension.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and the coaches would occasionally give the shittiest player on the team the "player of the game" recognition just so they would feel good about themselves despite the fact they stunk. Same vibe with "Petey."

I did, however, thoroughly enjoy sarcastically chanting "Let's go Petey" every time he f***ed up while I was at Game 6, which was often.

I dunno, McLeod had 12 this year, Foegele had 20 (though usually good for 10-15 goals), and Holloway seems higher-end than those guys. Maybe Holloway won't get 20 every year, but I can definitely see him doing it multiple times. He has more tenacity than McLeod and more skill than Foegele, and is 5 years younger than him. He has to avoid missing large chunks of time due to injury, is the key. A guy that regularly gets 17-23 goals, 40-45 points and possesses a great motor and physicality is a fantastic grab from the mid-first round though. Give us that for 8-10 years and we'll all be satisfied.

Honestly can't believe that Pettersson is getting a $12m signing bonus in July. Talented player, but yeah, seems to be soft and a total headcase. In his position, I know I'd feel embarrassed to be directly cheered for like that when I didn't accomplish much of anything.

The infamous blown 3 goal lead against Anaheim, the blown 3 goal lead against Winnipeg, the blown 3 goal lead in Game 1 against Vancouver, the blown, late, 2-0 lead in Game 4 and now Game 7.

It has always been an epidemic with this group moreso than any other team in the league it seems. I don't even think it's personnel necessarily as they have guys like Drai and Ekholm that can shut down things, I think it's mental and a mental hurdle that they HAVE TO overcome.

Technically they didn't blow the lead yesterday so that's four notable blown leads (including one game we ended up winning) in 61 playoff games which doesn't seem outrageous to me.

This is more a fault of the system. Its like Nurse getting $9.25M.
The players salaries often times are not representative of a large enough sample size and their ability in all situations.
Many players also get paid for what they are expected to do instead of what they have done up to that point in time.

If Pettersson doesnt learn from this and become a better playoff player then its a hit on their cap and a win for the other Pacific Division teams. I am absolutely okay with that.

Yeah, totally fair points. Right or wrong, players tend to get paid based on a combination of a) regular season, not playoff stats, b) "potential", c) "we don't want to lose this guy, so we're gonna pay up to keep him".

The Nurse thing was largely avoidable I will say though - could've just not signed Kassian right before doing that 2nd bridge deal with Nurse in early 2020 (the $5.6m x 2 one). They probably could've locked him in for like $7-$7.5m x 8 at that point.

Its interesting to look back on the Nurse situation. I seem to recall hearing something about Nurse not being interested in a bridge deal. That could be incorrect though.

If Warren Foegele can score 20 so can Holloway

This is 100% the case. Nurse took TWO bridge deals because Holland constantly made bad cap decisions for players like Kassian.

Im sure we could have got him at 7-8 which is very much in line with a trouba oel and several other 22 - 25 min a night guys.

Just more incompetence waiting until he could be a UFA in the Hamilton Jones year.

Any idea who's calling oil dal series? I hope it's not singh debrusk simply to avoid the 200 messages about how bad they were.

Truth. Dude had serious Tippet vibes with seemingly his only adjustment being “just execute better, stupid”.

So focused on getting his guys motivated, he got killed in possession and the Xs and Os. His system gave up plenty on the rush too, a lack of discipline shown throughout the line up.
His system was not even close to sustainable to be honest

No chance McLeod misses next game, mistake(s) aside he is too valuable. He had a tough night by his standards ... 4 min high-sticking penalty, he got rocked at least once with a hard hit, he missed slot coverage on a good chance and then the giveaway. I am sure he was taking it hard and needed to be able to get himself back under control. Smart move to hold him out and let him calm down. Also smart because he would have been highly prone to another issue due to nerves, anxiety, fear of doing something else wrong.
I keep looking through analysts and they keep seeing, other than the McLeod mistake, he had a decent game. So I'm not sure who is right ahahha

While I agree with this, I think he is too important a defensive specialist to not be in the lineup over others. With his speed and defensive awareness, I think he should be in the lineup. While his error was egregious, I think the best thing to do for his confidence is to put him back in the lineup for the opener against the Stars and see how he produces. This decision will go one of 2 ways. The way that gives him confidence will make him that much more valuable for us for the rest of the playoffs. If he sucks, then sobeit, sit him next game until we need to play him due to injury.

There is nuance involved here, but you get the gist of what I'm saying
absolutely
