Goes to show how difficult of a path it is. The assumption is that it’s going 7 if a higher seed loses Game 5. Yet, it’s just 50/50 to get there in the sample.

And FWIW, it’s been a lot more common to pull this off in the cap era (2 times out of 36 series) than before the cap era (2 times out of 67 years).

It could be that this is just easier in the cap era, or it could be that having it happen twice in 4 years (2010 and 2014) was a total fluke and we’re not due for another for a very long time.
