If he takes the Geno contract, with the cap going up they can keep him while still having the cap space to round out the rest of the roster.

So they're not forced to move on from him. It probably comes down to what the alternate options look like.

They also have to re-sign some RFAs and fill out a couple of other spots (4 defensemen signed, including 1 that is a press box guy in Timmins), including another Goaltender besides Woll (whose career high 23 starts probably means you don't want to rely on a career cheap backup next to him).
