IIRC it was Lavy who was convinced that Bob was not a clutch goalie. He put that stink on Bob and it stuck in the organization leading to the Bryz disaster.

Again, this organization has been very dumb for far too long....

Large market (6th largest city in the country) small market parochial mentality.

IIRC it was Lavy who was convinced that Bob was not a clutch goalie. He put that stink on Bob and it stuck in the organization leading to the Bryz disaster.

Bob was over relied upon and over used and undercoached. Yet he excelled under extreme pressure until the playoffs bc he was a natural talent and hard worker. The organization had to save face and justify backing up the Brinks truck and the jet fuel expended by Snider to woo a system goalie who didn't fit the system of the coach they were inserting him into. Complete lack of due dilligence by the org bc Snider was reactionary and Holmgren had no balls to challenge his owner's diktats.

Relegating Bob to a backup was horrible for a goalie like Bob who needed reps and was a workhorse. You then had a shitty goalie coach who was outed when the Blue Jackets coach quickly identified a flaw in Bob's stance and Bob became a Vezina goalie in short order. Granted he had some playoff performance issues for a while but was still a bonafide goaltender unlike Bryz the thief and charlatan.
