i wonder how they had to nerf parayko to keep him at an 85

great skater, hard shot, great passing/hands and insane defensive tools and positioning. with their attribute formula parayko should be hitting like 88 or 89 overall even though he isnt a top 5 dman like that overall would indicate.

Couldn’t agree more with this. Just like they say O’Reilly is a top 25 center. Nope.

Considering how the different attributes affects the overall number it's no surprise. Defensive awareness is worth a ton. However, I will agree that the attributes worth should be constructed differently. More emphasis should be put on puck skills and a little less on defensvie awarness, strenght and stick checking.

I edit players manually and usually have an overall number in mind, but often have to make adjustments because some players are impossible to get to certain numbers without making their attributes too unrealistic. I have to pad Erik Karlsson's stats if I wanna get him higher than 88 overall. Meanwhile I have to make someone like Shea Weber a bit worse than he is to get him below 88 overall.

Sadly the overalls isn't a good indicator of how good a player is in real, or even in the game for that matter.

You realize the Canucks had zero players rated over 85 in NHL 19 (until ratings updates), NHL 18, and NHL 17, right?

They have two on this list. Overall only really tells you how good the player’s offensive and defensive awareness attributes are, anyways.

Maybe do some research before perpetuating misinformation.

We started with 2 85s in NHL 19 (Horvat Boeser) added 2 more as season went on (Pettersson Markstrom) although you are correct about NHL 18 and 17 I think

Bolded ones are up there due to high defensive awareness, strength and stick checking, though Toews is coming off a good offensive season too.
