Nice add! Was the head Pro Scout for a long time with the Blues when they won the cup

I assumed he had played for us at some point but I guess not.

Seems like a good hire either way

Great news. Curious why he'd take a step down in position?
Could be any number of reasons. Maybe he didn't like the role, or the org, or maybe there was no reasonable path for advancement with the Ducks, or maybe he just prefers having more fulsome control over his responsibilities. Hard to tell at this juncture.

Positive hire either way, could go a long way toward shoring up one of our biggest historical blind spots.

Presumably he would still be under contract with Anaheim until the end of June, so maybe they didn't plan to bring him back.

He left the Ducks organization due to personal reasons. Maybe he was pushed out or maybe there was some reason he needed to leave California/be in Canada.

Absolutely love this signing, it's a quality hire. DiMaio's prints are all over the St. Louis franchise, including the roster that won the cup. The guy has been pro scout for 15 years+ who has played almost 900 NHL games. It starts with scouting for this team, pro scouting being a weakness forever, glad they got Rob DiMaio on board.

Would be interesting to have an "investigative" reporter ask the question as to why he chose to leave an Assistant GM position in sunny and warm California to take this position with Ottawa in the cold white north.

"Personal reasons" could be anything at all.

Now hire some new experienced pro scouts, and some experienced assistant coaches,

Worthwhile read just to get a sense of the guy, but it mentions that he was going to remain based in Toronto while taking the Anaheim job. Makes sense that that arrangement just didn't work out and he wanted something closer to home.

Hopefully one of our reporters will do a similar piece now. Mendes would be good for it.

a tad strange isn't it? His career as a player was entirely in the USA. Almost 20 years. Then almost 17 years in scouting and so on, all in the USA.

Since about the age of 20, he has been in hockey, but exclusively in the USA. More often than not, these guys become US citizens, and rarely look back.. Look at our pack of dual American/Canadian players. Their Dads.

Canada should have been to him, what the Muskoka's is to us. A place you visit and stay a week, once a year.

Man, I would love to hear his story.
