And they're keeping Dumba too? Their blueline isn't that bad after all. Much better than what they were icing in this years playoffs.

Hedman - Raddysh
Sergachev - Cernak
McDonaugh - Dumba

x - Perbix , de Haan

IMO there's no way we spend that much money on the left side. We need another move to realistically bring Stamkos back, and I think that move is gonna be Sergachev.

Does this price Stamkos out of Tampa? They have 5M in cap space left now with several spots to fill

Imo it means another move is already done. There's no way we shut the door on Stamkos on a whim. Not saying he will for sure come back, probably 60-40, but we wouldnt do it like this.

IMO theres a cap move coming. My bet is Sergachev.

Trotz has always talked about the respect he has for Mac and how he approaches the game. He said he was a piece he wanted to bring in to provide leadership. Mac held up his end of the bargain these past two seasons and asked if Trotz could explore the move back to Tampa. Tampa was interested, the compensation was fair. Mac provided a veteran presence and now allows us to hopefully bring up the next guy. I don't think its terribly difficult to follow.

Why is everyone so willing to see Sergachev go as he is arguably their best Dman going into next season if healthy?

Then again maybe the assets coming back and the ability to resign Stamkos is worth it?

NSH loading up on picks and cap space for a Marner trade
That would be cool if true.

What a dumb move by the Preds.

I understand that it's not 2019 anymore and McD also has a NTC, but if all you're going to get is pocket change, might as well keep a good veteran.

Plus next year he'll be even more useful as his NTC becomes a M-NTC.

Amateur hour at Trotz' office.
It’s good cap and asset management by Trotz.

Two seasons ago the Preds acquired Ryan McDonagh for Grant Mismash and Phil Myers.

Mismash is somewhere in Norway and never played for Tampa Bay, Myers has played in only 16 games with the Lightning and contributed 3 points.

Trotz opens up $6.75mil worth of cap and gets a 2nd round pick in return for his troubles, I wouldn’t say it’s amateur hour in Trotz office, It’s just good business.

Re-acquiring McDonagh doesn’t mean the Lightning are in a more advantageous cap situation than when they traded him away. They’re down to just over $5mil in projected cap space next season.

Ryan McDonagh isn’t the defenseman he once was and will be turning 35 next month.

What would the Sharks need to add to the 14th overall pick to acquire Cernak? You can have Rutta back too if you want.

Trading Cirelli is gonna be harder than you think. Not a lot of teams are in need of 6.25 million 40 point player. I know he’s great defensively but 6.25 for 6 more year isn’t appealing
Historically through injuries and 3rd line usage Cirelli is a 40 pt player but like a lot of GM’s are apt to see it, he has the ability at his age to hit 60 to 70 pts. When you combine that with everything else he does in his 200 foot play there will be a lot of interest if he becomes available.

I wonder if this means Stamkos is gone.
They have a tiny bitmore than $5M to sign or bring up, ideally, 3 forwards and one dman.

But one of these forwards is Stamkos.

So unless they get rid of a significant contract (or Stamkos accepts a cheap deal), yes he is gone.

Obviously Nashville had a chance to dump the cap hit they’re gonna have for Duchene’s buyout this summer, and got a 2nd doing it, but that’s a big hole in their lineup now.

He’s a great add for Tampa but not exactly the move you make heading into the off-season, as it really ties their hands. Especially at his age.

Now if they add anything significant July 1, or Stamkos, they won’t be getting much of anything in return for their cap dumps, as everyone knows they’re just dumping salary. There now in no position to be paying anyone cap dump picks either.

Not a position to be in, when you have little in your prospect pool, and even fewer high draft picks anytime soon.

Could Tampa move Cernak or Sergachev? Sure, but kind of defeats the purpose of getting McDonagh. Unless it’s a deal for a legit forward like a Konecny.. Then it would make some sense, but they’re still getting older and less valuable on their blue line, just to add that forward.

So not sure there’s much to read into this deal, other than they knew they were losing Stamkos, and the best bet at that point is to bear down on the backend, and they were able to add a Top 4 dman for a 2nd Round pick.

Hell, they probably can’t even get a 5th for Stamkos negotiation rights, as he’d have to approve the trade, and is only doing so with the team he’s planning to go to. Doubt he’s gonna be nudged into going anywhere.

Everybody: Nashville is making cap room for Marner
Me: Nashville is making cap room for Seth Jones

( More accurate: 50% Marner, 30% Jones, 20% just lower payroll )

Except that Tampa doesn't really care much about picks that won't help this core in the next 2-3 years. They can still also keep Stamkos through a variety of ways to open up space, so no, them re-acquirinv McD does not signal that Stamkos is gone. All it means is that Tampa needed to improve significantly on the blueline after the last couple of seasons, and this trade does that.
