Best way to beat 1-3-1 is by not allowing it to get set up in the first place...

2nd best way is to build speed and numbers via control regroups. I wanna see this kind of play to break through the neutral zone. Need to work as a five-man unit.

That Vancouver team can sure move the puck. Could be the best passing team in the NHL.

I don't know why I'm nervous about this match up this time around, but I am.
Remember that Nail Yakupov knee slide game?

That was the most horrific display of biased reffing i had ever seen in my life. Including a good goal called back for 'reasons'.

We remember the Kesler holding down the pad, and admitting it. And the ref saying 'what do I tell Corey'.

Nervous as hell because the better team could get absolutely demolished by horrible reffing, and history won't remember it that way.

We all know what California reffing was like, and we're scared shitless it could come back anytime.

I really wish we weren't playing the Kings, if for no other reason than I've had such positive interactions with their fans and I'd love to meet them in later rounds instead.

Oilers can't take this team lightly. The Kings will be hungry. I think people are sleeping on Nashville too. Canucks are a pretty balanced team, but so is Nashville and they've been playing playoff style hockey for the last 6 weeks basically.

I also think Tampa makes the ECF.

Good article.
I like that he touched on the fact that the Kings are not as good as they were last season.
The Dubois trade alone made that team weaker and when you factor in that their core players are getting up there that means an LA team that is a step down from where they were at this time last season. I also dont think that Talbot is a difference maker or that Hiller is a better coach than McLellan.

The Oilers IMO are better than last season. The only exception to that is Darnell Nurse but he wasnt exatcly a difference maker last playoffs either. He was a liability in the Vegas series.
Overall the Oilers have more offensive depth...more size...more experience...a better top pairing on D....and better coaching than last season.

I just dont see how the Kings can overcome their own deficiencies and overcome the fact that the Oilers are a better team (compared to last season) and win much more than a game in this series.
Luck and the Refs could play a role though so we shall see how it plays out.
The kings are better than last year. Last year they didn’t deal with losing their coach and everything involved with that.
