Congrats to him, now has a pro contract. Good league, nice country and closest to his family. Plus we get more time to sign him. Best scenario possible imo.

but man is he small and skinny. He looks like he's barely 150 lbs out there.
Listed at 5'11, 168lb on Hockey db. Likely done growing but hopefully he can fill out and get up to 185lb over the next couple of years.

Are we sure his rights extend by two years if he was drafted out of the OHL?

Zurich finished 4th in the league. I suppose they are a well rounded and fairly mature team. Is anyone else concerned if he will get minutes and touches with his new club (two things essential to player development)? The National League is not friendly to young players (very few sub 22yr olds playing regularly). Has anyone heard how the team wishes to use him?

Wonder if Habs letting Rohrer play in Swiss League has anything to do with Habs knowing they'll pick fellow Austrian Reinbacher from same league. Can monitor both players development next season (assuming Habs do smart thing and send Reinbacher back instead of rushing him).

I think that getting their rights on the player extended was probably a big factor. He was also just a few days from this year draft, so it gives him more time to mature.

Headed to pro hockey in Switzerland rather than spending a third year in the OHL.

Wonder how that effects his development and where the organization is with this move.

Unless I'm mistaken, rights are based on where you were playing at the time you were drafted and don't change if you change leagues.

Believe he still has to be signed by next July or he goes back into the draft (Or becomes a UFA depending on his age).

Organization is on board. They think it's a good league for him to continue to develop and gives them an extra year to decide whether to provide him with an ELC.

They're going to have Rohrer spy on Reinbacher. Make sure he's eating all his veggies and drinking his protein shakes.

In an interview he said that (like Reinbacher) he counts as Swiss player and not an import (despite being Austrian) which makes it easier to get a roster spot.

It would be nice if he could develop on his own for a couple years and come here. He just turned 19 a week or so where as a lot of guys turn 19 during their D+1 season. Age wise he was basically playing his D+1 a couple months older than Shane Wright's draft season. September birthdays are always disadvantaged this way, as I believe he would have been a 2023 draft eligible player if he'd been born a week or so later.

Yes he was the youngest player of the draft
