The Oilers have a
  • 86 pt defenseman making 3.9 mil.
  • 50 goal scorer making 5.5 mil
  • 67 point wing / center in RNH making 5.25 mil. He also had 100 pts last year.
  • 41 point 3rd line winger in Foegele making 2.75 mil.
What depth exactly are you expecting?

The 15-16 Penguins had one player over 80 points in the regular season.

The 08-09 Penguins had Sid and Malkin and the next closest forward was at 49 points in Staal.

Look at the Tampa teams. They didn't have the kind of scoring depth that Edmonton has this season. And they were paying players like Tyler Johnson 5+ mil to play 4C.

I feel like you're just out to lunch here. The Oilers were unanimously viewed as a top 3 contender for the cup this year, now they can't score outside of the powerplay and it is suddenly a depth issue. Not to even mention the fact we are making a post like this after they narrowly lost a game to go down 1-2 in a series.
Winners find a way to win while losers lose.

Oilers issues are not depth:
They need an average starter 900-910%
They need an average 2nd line rhd (Ceci is not, Nurse would look better as well and we are stuck with him)

These all could have been acquired but management failed again.

That being said they have the potential forward depth to make up for it.

Their defensive metrics are one of the top in the nhl comparative to their offenders

That ship has sailed. The Edmonton Oilers have wasted both these players being together by poor asset management and poor cap management. The team is up against the cap with Draisitle entering the final year of his current contract and McDavid 2 years after. Draisaitl is as good as gone. Maybe even after these playoffs in the offseason. They cannot afford his next contract. Especially if the Organization has hopes in re-signing McDavid. The Organization royally screwed things up here and wasted a 1-2 punch that the league hasn't seen in decades.

This is the same shit people were saying after the Kings won a game.

There is still a lot of hockey left to be played and the Oilers have the best player in the NHL right now AINEC. If Skinner can even be average its over in 6.

Just to reply to the OP......

They don't need help, they need a balanced team. Every season the Leafs and Oilers go in with a juggernaught offense, lacklucker D and a rotating cast of literal clowns as their goaltenders and just like...... hope for the best?

Both teams need to heavily overpay in a trade for a quality goalie.
I wonder if Ullmark's no-trade includes Edmonton...?

Most Bruins' fans are ready to go with Swayman as a true number one now I'd say. And we could sure use some more offensive talent.

It's weird how the Oilers have had a goaltending issue for the entirety of the McDavid era.

Maybe, there is an issue with the commitment / system that isn't reflected in the roster complications.

All cup winners have bad contracts. Get over it. It isn't special.
The Oilers have had the same goaltending coach the entirety of the McDavid era, so it's not that weird actually.

We have the big brained pens fans in here opining that if mcdrai were split on two lines rather than trying to chisel points from eachother,Oilers goalies would stop more pucks.

Mcdrai need some of those intangibles

Why was that an issue? Did you even check what the Oilers record was with Sutherland?

IT'S WORSE THAN THE CANUCKS.

Go read some articles. Av, sedins had issues with him. Nobody is talking about a record at all, I'm sure vc has terrible record with lots of refs. No other ref gets airtime in VC other then him wether you agree with it or not. Theres a history.

Maybe one day you’ll have a roster with 5 100 pt forwards and 6 30+ goal scorers all on cap circumventing deals like the Penguins did in all of their cup runs.

Plus in the 2nd round in 2009 MAF had a .878 SV%, maybe one day the Oilers will be able to get that amazing goaltending.

Goaltending is highly dependent on confidence. Ullmark will go right back to his 0 confidence Sabres version because he will be hung out to dry again for the most part. Same would happen with the Leafs.

The only history is that Vancouver media seems to be fixated on officiating.
It happened before puck dropped game 1. You're complaining about biased officiating in a series you are winning and have more powerplays in!

Yes, Oilers have horrible relations and records with some refs. Oilers record under Sutherland is worse than the Canucks. But it's not the topic of discussion all day every day nonstop. Our media doesn't make it the primary conversation.

YOU CURRENTLY HAVE MORE POWERPLAYS THIS SERIES, and are leading.

WHY ARE YOU ALL COMPLAINING SO MUCH ABOUT REFFING?????? You honestly think we love the officiating going on???

Many on here said last summer to trade RNH for Ullmark. But Oilers fans were all saying how RNH is untouchable because he's a 100pt guy lol. The guy is the biggest passenger in the league. Just leeches off McDavid and Draisaitl since those two arrived and uses the PP to inflate his stats.

The point was that if Skinner was giving up 5 goals to the Kings that the oilers would be f***ed against good teams. Seems to be playing out.

Crosby's cap hit in 2009 was 15.8% of the total cap, which is higher than McDavid's percentage cap hit this year.

McDavid is drastically outproducing the opposition when he's on the ice. Is his defense really the problem?

When it counts the most would presumably be the playoffs, where McDavid has put up 70 points in his last 36 games.

This is a dumb and bad take all around.
Everyone else is to blame but the captain.

It's the same thing EVERY YEAR. Goaltending sucks and defense isn't good enough to cover.

What am I missing that everyone isn't in terms of viewing them as a contender? They're never winning with their goaltending and defense.

Get rid of Campbell and/or Nurse, bolster the defense and then find a serviceable veteran goalie.

Amd this is what most oiler fans can't understand. This goalie coach has been ruining Oilers goalies for over a decade. Rumor has it he is married into the Katz family. Makes sense why he is bulletproof lolol

Why are you bringing this up constantly in this thread and why cant you read?

I have said multiple times the reffing has been fine outside of the issues yet again with kelly sutherland and the massive history there with the sedins, alaign vigneault and others in the organisation a decade ago, the vancouver media in its current form seemingly has no issues with any particular ref by name like they do with kelly sutherland given the 13 year issues with him. No ref is a talking point by name in the market, only kelly sutherland right now, I dont even know who reffed last game or game 1.... So either vancouver has some unfounded hatred for a random ref for no reason and wasted time writing articles about him a decade ago, or there is simply controversy and history there. Seems like you are more obsessed with this anyone.

Move on it has nothing to do with this thread. And yes reffing outside of him has been a non issue imo, once again. And for that matter oilers fans think kozari hates them, then simply dont invite the controversy and have him ref oilers games.

Edmonton has a leadership problem.

The 2 best players in the NHL and neither one of them are leaders of any kind.

They both need to learn how to be better at the whole team game thing (which is why Vancouver are kicking Edmontons ass).
