Dallas Stars are proof that you can find some very good value elsewhere in the draft.

Hopefully if we don't acquire Necas that they are able to find a Johnston with the Winnipeg pick.
It's a rare quantity before top quality approach that has worked like a charm. They basically have 4 lines that can score now at any given time. They took a chance of guys who had fallen a tad and needed some work at the draft ( Robertson, Harley,Johnston, Stankoven) and it really paid off.

Or we get another Scherbak, Julsen, McCarron, etc... Win some, lose lots more.

Using exceptions as examples of draft policies isn't that great.

I mean to be fair COVID let a lot of guys get under scouted. Johnson had 30 points in 50 games in his rookie year and didn't play his draft season at all. Stakoven was stolen under similar circumstances.

These arent guys that usually drop that far, a once in a lifetime event helped.

They got Oettinger and Robertson pre covid.

Dallas picked those guys especially in the OHL. This is never a bad move to pick in the best junior hockey league in the World. I rather pick in the OHL than pick a no name in the slovak league or allsvenskan in sweden
