I hope they have an opportunity to trade the pick, but if they don't, I think USNTDP as a drafting league may be toward the bottom of their list.
They used 2nd and 3rd round picks last year on USHL guys (Strbak & McCarthy).

They have picked guys from all over since Adams took over.

2023: WHL (2), USHL (2), Sweden, OHL, USHS, Germany
2022: WHL (2), Sweden (4), Czech, Finland, Russia, QMJHL, USHL
2021: NCAA, Sweden (2), Russia (4), OHL, QMJHL (2), WHL
2020: OHL, Germany, Jr A, Sweden, Czech

Over the 4 drafts, the totals are:

Sweden: 8
WHL: 5
Russia: 5
QMJHL: 3
USHL: 3
OHL: 3
Germany: 2
Czech: 2
Finland: 1
NCAA: 1
Jr A: 1
USHS: 1

It is much more about the type of player than where they play for the Sabres right now.

Eiserman would be a choice. I think in terms of everyone in that area, he's my least favorite potential selection because of so many reasons with his game outside of his ability to finish plays. Off puck, defensively, physically, competitively... I find him incredibly lacking in all of those areas. Bleh.

Eiserman and Parekh are tied for filling me with existential dread.

Parekh is different for me - the RHD thing is appealing but the way he defends by just sort of getting in the way a little bit drives me nuts. The offensive game is so eye popping and their lack of RHD, I could see it and not be completely put off. Eiserman though... I'm trying hard not to have "a guy" who would drive me nuts on draft day but he's so much that for me right now.

Just watched a shift by shift breakdown of part of one of his games on YouTube. At least in this one game, Eiserman seems damn near allergic to skating and stopping hard in the defensive end or getting back through the neutral zone if there's not an immediate chance of the puck ending up on his stick. A lot of aimless/lazy floating

Don't stop at just one game. It's every game.

11.) Buffalo: Zeev Buium, LHD, NCAA (University of Denver)

Who cares about handedness: take the best player available. Buium was a dynamic offensive force this year for the NCAA national champions. His vision, deceptiveness at the blue line, and ability to pick his spots on how to generate offense is sublime. He sees through the layers of a defensive structure and creates rush and passing lanes that most defensemen in this draft are incapable of doing. His defensive skating could use an extra step, but I love the way he uses his gaps and he is amazing off the puck at positioning himself to suffocate the next play. Buium plays chess in the neutral and defensive zone off puck and I’m all in on it.

Yes, we have Dahlin/Power/Byram/Samuelsson in the NHL as long term LHD options. Yes, we have Ryan Johnson waiting in the wings. I’m always taking the best player available and Buium currently sits at #5 on my big board, so I’m going to take the player and figure out the rest later

Wildcard: If we had to take a forward

Trevor Connelly, LW, USHL (Tri-City)

His off-ice concerns are something the Sabres are going to have to figure out and I’ll trust their investigation into the player and what has happened with him off the ice. The Athletic did a great write up of all the concerns here. The player on the ice? He broke my dataset in so many areas in the offensive end, especially compared to his North American counterparts. He attempted 45% more dangerous shots than anyone else in my dataset in total. He’s second amongst forwards in total pass attempts and is first in percentage of passes going to dangerous areas of the ice at 29%. He has defensive concerns, but my goodness, he’s instant offense in the USHL and shined in the u18s playing down in the lineup.

Heck to the nah nah on Connelly for me.

I'm doing what I can do, to get Helenius. Reminds me so much of Aho (Carolina's) and that sort of player flourishes in any type of team/system.

I’m not worried about them taking Eiserman. This regime seems to like players that I also like in first rounds. And I hate Eiserman.

Yep. The most contact averse dman rated in the top 15 that I can remember. Just soft as butter.
