Nah... Been watching all season.. And fan since 93 lol. Fowler is no doubt a better player than theo..not denying that lol. Just concerned. Fowlers might have some rust.

Even rusty, he's undeniably a much better player in pretty much every facet.

Theodore was not very good.

Theodore was very good at rushing the puck up ice - he was exponentially better at that than any other defenseman in the Calgary series. He deserves credit for that. The problem was that he was exponentially worse than everyone else at actually playing defense.

I still think that he's going to start out as a 3rd pairing PP specialist who needs to be paired with a stay at home guy, whose ceiling tops out as a 2-3 in 4-5 years. There's nothing wrong with that.

This is a more apt description. He just needs to become more acclimated at the NHL level. Hopefully, he'll surpass the Olausson type defense and be better than Ozolinsh too. = )

True, but he isn't exponentially better than Fowler at moving the puck. Vatanen might be closer, but I think Sami is better at it with less room to work with. At least for now. My point being, I think that says more about the blue line we had. Puck movement was not a big strength against Calgary. But you're right. He deserves props for that. I'm just not comfortable with the other issues in his game in a playoff environment.

Nothing wrong with that at all. He just needs to develop.

So, after game 1, what's everyone's opinion on Fowler? I was trying to pay attention to his strides, his speed, how aggressive he was playing...seemed a bit on the light side on defense (hanging back a bit further, like how he played that eventual goal by Larsson). And no, I don't mean light like he was super physical before...meaning maybe lighter than usual.

His speed and movement didn't look too hampered to me...hard to judge if he's not going full speed because it's not strategically sound vs his knee doesn't feel 100%. He did have one rush from the defensive to across the offensive blue line that gave me flashbacks to his injury, lol, and that makes me think he's feeling pretty good.

To me, Fowler looked 100%. Don't know if he is, but he didn't seem to be holding back anything he used to do. Probably the best thing to me was that although he isn't a physical player, he didn't look timid at any time in the game. He didn't shy away from any situation. Can't really ask for more than that.

and that's fantastic. It means he's not afraid to go there again, something recently injured players often struggle with.

He looked like the same Cam to me, maybe his skating was a touch slower but it wasn't a hindrance.

He did get plastered on that one hit though. I can't recall the last time he's gotten lined up by anyone like that. I don't remember the play exactly though. He may have been put in a bad spot.

You talking about the hit from Lucic behind the net? It was a really clean it, but yeah we usually don't see Cam get hit like that.

It was a clean hit, but it's not common to see two guys chase the guy behind the net. Lucic kind of went out of position to make the hit.
