I had always hoped that Jamie Lundmark would make his "mark" and blossom into a top center for the Rangers. Alas, that draft crushed me as the Rangers swung and missed on two high picks (Lundmark and Brendl). Man, that 1999 draft had more "what ifs" in the first round than players who became good. You have the Sedin twins, Havlat and somewhat Connolly, that's about it. Boynton and Jackman were decent, but nothing outstanding.

I was living in Leduc at the time and watched a lot of Oil King games so I truly thought Griffin Reinhart was going to be a high end Defenseman.

For me, asude from the many, many players my team drafted that didn't reach potential, it has to be Gilbert Brule.

I liked how he played in junior, felt bad for him about Habs fans being weird when they didn't draft him, and I felt bad for him because his development was stalled with some pretty big injuries. Seems like a good guy too.

Why?

For the leafs I immediately thought of Ian Scott and Rodion amirov
That's a little different, wouldn't you say?

There are people naming players drafted like two or three years ago. How could you possibly say a player didn't succeed when we are so early into some of these players careers?

Plenty of players who hit their stride at 27 or 28. Not everyone is McDavid or Makar or MacKinnon.

Was reminded of Chase De Leo after attending his bobblehead night.

I'm always partial to prospects from southern California, so I was cheering on De Leo. When I saw him play in the WHL, I thought he could be something like how Sergei Brylin was a fan favorite role player for the Devils. De Leo didn't become an NHL regular but he's been a solid hand in the AHL.

It's going back a bit, but I really, really wanted Igor Grigorenko to succeed.

That guy had it all going for him until the car accident that shattered his femur and altered his game so drastically. He looked like a steal that would have been a regular 30+ goalscorer with his speed and shot.

Rocco Grimaldi. He was electric for the NTDP and met him once and he was a super nice guy. There was always the size issue but always rooted for him to make it. He’s played some in the NHL but not as much as I expected.

Drouin was magical in that one run the Lightning made in the playoffs. I think somebody key was injured that year and the dude just took the reigns. I always thought he was going to be a 90-100 pt clutch player. What a waste of potential.

Gilbert Brule. Watched so many Giants games back in the day, and thought for a fact he was going to be at least a 1st line forward in the NHL.

I was disappointed to say the least in how his career turned out. Columbus definitely rushed him.

I get the sense that Bokk was never the hardest worker off ice. He didn’t put on any weight post draft (despite being pretty slim), and still didn’t have great endurance when I was watching him in the SHL. Very floaty, and you have to be crazy skilled to float in the show f
I liked Bokk a lot as a prospect. Sadly, his development (or lack thereof) since the draft has been rather disappointing. I still remember him chewing gum like crazy on stage on draft day. Cool guy. I don't know if we're too early to write him off though. He's not gonna live up to his draft position and it's not looking good right now but crazier things have happened. He's just 23 and has been north of PPG last season in the DEL.

Luca Cereda has succeeded, just as a coach and not as a player. One of very few capable Swiss born coaches. Doing a great job in Ambri.

Joey Hishon - career ruined in Jr by a dirty head shot from Brayden McNabb

Duncan Siemans - he looked like a creepy porn star from the mid 1980s.

You think it's already over for him? I also am a fan
Holloway looked so depressed when the Oil drafted him. First reaction said it all.

Mats Lindgren and Jaroslav Svejkovsky from back in the late '90's. Both ran into injury problems, and Lindgren probably wasn't as dynamic as I had hoped when he came from Sweden and got traded to the Oilers. Yogi Svejkovsky I still believe was legit but some major injuries every year post-draft were too much to overcome.
