Pretty crazy progression . Split last season between Russia u17 league and the MHL, this season has spent most of his time in the KHL as a late 03. Michkov is a late 04 so hopefully something similar can happen for him next year altough SKA is stacked. Not to mention what also helped Yurov make the transition was growing 3 inches and gaining 20 lbs in the past year. Last year he was only a bit bigger than Michkov is now.

It is not that crazy this year, Yurov wouldnt play in KHL if there was no pandemic

Well, he's on the roster now with no players out, he scored 1+1 in the previous game, so no reason to send him down.

If you meant, he wouldn't have gotten a chance to play in the KHL without COVID, I'd probably agree with you.

Top 5 prospect for 2022 right here. Kid has a fantastic all around game.

Yeah, between him and Miroshnichenko, I'll probably take Yurov, especially if he continues to play successfully in the KHL. On the other hand, if Mirochnichenko shows results close to what Andrey Svechnikov did, we'll have two Russians in the draft's top10. And I'd add D Arsenii Koromyslov to these two as a potential high pick - the kid looked really good in those MHL games I watched and even played in the KHL.

Unless I'm misreading something, I don't understand what do you mean by "no players out". Magnitka still missed Karpov, Lammikko, Potekhin, Kulemin, Shvyryov, Korobkin, Rozhkov at F alone. Plus Rasmussen hasn't joined the team yet.

Scoring or not, Yurov isn't even close to Magnitka's healthy roster and he will be sent down, likely this week already.

Wasn't Yurov their main U20 forward?

I suppose one could say so but he played less than 5 minutes combined in that role. Therefore I'd say "main U20 forward" isn't a thing that Magnitka would actually deploy.

They still usually don't mind deploying 13 FWs (even if only 12 play), so I'd say Yurov's chances to stay with the team aren't that low... unless they play someone younger than Vadim Antipin at D, then Rozhkov can be the 13th FW.

Well let's face it, nobody is going to staple the kid to the bench for an entire season which is basically what being a 13th forward is. Staying with the main team might carry some prestige but in reality, it means nothing but the fact that you aren't playing hockey at all. Undoubtedly Magnitka won't be stupid enough to do that and will give him a chance to play at least ~25 MHL games. Which means sending him down is an imminent action.

Yes, lots of youngsters got the chance to play in KHL this year

I love this kid's skating

How would you compare him to the best Russian winger prospects of the past ten drafts before his, 2012-2021 (players like Svechnikov, Podkolzin, Kravtsov, Buchnevich, Kaprizov, Marchenko, Amirov, Nichushkin, Guryanov)? Is he among the best of those players pre-draft and stylistically which of these players is he most like?

Stylistically, he's Buchnevich/Marchenko kind of a player, i.e. good in everything (size, skating, IQ, shooting, stickhandling), but won't blow you out of the water with something trully special. I think, he's got good potential to become a solid top6 winger in the NHL. He's obviously a 1st round pick candidate.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree mightily. Yurov is up at the KHL level right now because he's a three zone player and an absolute workhorse. I also believe he'll play center in the long run as he has at other levels. He may very well be the most complete prospect in a loaded 2022 field. I have him #3 behind Lambert and Wright at the moment.

He's above all an offensive player. He may have better 2-way game, than Marchenko and especially Buchnevich, but I won't call him a 2-way specialist. As to his KHL play, I don't think, the whole lot of 5 min TOI makes him a KHLer. I mean, Marchenko scored almost as many points in 2 MHL games, as Yurov scored in 8 games. That's the difference between a KHLer and a so-called KHLer. And don't forget Yurov is still behind Michkov in scoring in the MHL, despite being a whole 1 year older. He's a top MHLer right now, which isn't that bad for a 16 (almost 17) yo kid, but he isn't a KHLer.

Very good skater he is. I'd say he doesn't have any weaknesses in his game, but isn't incredible in anything as well. That's why he's going to be top 15 pick, not top 5.

That may be good. It'll allow him to develop in Magnitka without being under pressure to immediately join the NHL team that drafts him because he was picked in the top 10. We see this has become a problem with Kravtsov, and likely will become one with Podkolzin.
