They don't matter the only teams that are important to watch are the Senators, Coyotes and Blue Jackets

Well the position of that Winnipeg 1stof ours is really in play. The Jets are on the one hand 5 points from 1st in the NHL, and on the other hand 5 points from 10th in the NHL. Currently they're 7th.

This means that if everything remains the same and the Jets don't win their division and don't got to the second round, the pick is at worst 25th. If Edmonton, Vegas, and Nashville catch them in the standings, the pick goes to at worst 22nd. It can then fall even more if a team below them in the standings makes the conference finals. Right now those teams include Edmonton, Vegas, and Nashville. But if those teams catch them in the standings, the teams below them to root for to make the conference finals would be one of LA, Tampa, Philly, and last team that makes it in the east (Detroit, Washington, Islanders).

So the pick still has a chance to be anywhere from 18th to 32nd, with a real shot at the 20th to 22nd range. Definitely rooting for Dallas and the Avs to stay ahead of them, but also the Preds, Oil, and Vegas to catch them. Probably a higher chance of the Preds, Oil, and Vegas of catching the Jets than the Jackets catching us.

Every game is crucial

Ottawa finally winning and us ending the night in 5th place just feels so damn good...

...that and the bar I played tonight was packed with a shit ton of bristish hotties for some random reason ... so that also makes my night extra awesome 👌

anyway, tomorrow is a must lose game if we are to hopefully secure top5 ... just keep racking up them losses boys!

In the scenario described above (not 1st in central and 1st round exit) wouldn t they fall to 17-24 based on who else is eliminated in the 1st round ?

Basically you want the following.

Regular season:
- The Jets not to win their division.
- As many teams as possible that are below them now in the standings to pass them.

Playoffs:
- Jets don't make it to the conference finals.
- As many teams below in the standings from the regular season to make those 4 conference finals spots.

The first round is irrelevant. It's getting out of the second round, i.e. To the conference finals, that affects draft position.

I'm not the one calling people idiots.

I would be more interested to see how much parity there was if the gimmick points were removed - if every shootout and 3 on 3 win were considered as ties, just like shootout and 3 on 3 losses. Would be an interesting exercise to see how parity is affected. I think parity is mainly due to the salary cap. But I'd be interested to see whether the gimmick points also affect it.
Ok, I might've used some 'aggressive' language in describing a general group. "It's out and out tampering with the standings to induce fake parity for idiots." That wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, whereas your response to me was.

You made a multi paragraph condescending post that ended with "Bit sure how how don't get this or chose to ignore it in your belligerent post." I'll be condescending and assume that if were you able to spell at an adult level it would be "Not sure how you don't get this or you're choosing to ignore it in your belligerent post."

You can create whatever rationalizations that you want, the loser point was created to promote artificial parity.

Thanks for reminding me. the second round is the threshold. I forget every year. ;)

I'll go under the assumption for now that we can have an adult conversation about the topic without being rude, condescending, or aggressive. ( but I can't guarantee no typos when typing on my phone and all these ads are popping up, sometimes not allowing me to see what I'm typing as I type).

I'm not sure about the bolded statement. The game was in the dead puck era when the shootout and 4 on 4 OT were brought in. The decision makers knew they needed to make the game more exciting. They started enforcing hooking and holding. They also said they didn't want games to end in ties, to increase excitement level. So they brought in the shootout. But, if you recall, there were debates about how it wouldn't be good if shootouts determined things like if a team made the playoffs or not. So they wanted the best of both worlds: no more ties and fan excitement, on the one hand, and minimizing the affect of shootouts and 4 on 4 on a team's place in the standings. So they went with still getting a point for tying the actual hockey game, and then an extra point for winning the gimmick to create fan excitement.

I like the system because I find 3 on 3 and shootouts exciting. But I also don't want them to have a big impact on the standings. But of course you can't have them, but have them not be rewarded with points. For context I don't like that soccer matches go to penalties in the world cup. I think they should go to a reduced number of players, a soccer version of 3 on 3.

But all this is just my opinion. If it has the effect of also creating parity, there's nothing wrong with that. In fact it's an added bonus. But ultimately I'm in favor of the so-called loser points because they minimize the effects of winning in the shootout in the standings while still bringing the excitement of the shootout and 3 on 3. I can understand if some don't like the shootout and 3 on 3. I do. We're all entitled to our opinions. I think I'd be in favor of 3 points for regulation wins, I just haven't thought about it enough to know for sure. I have other things to do.

This is a bit random but I wanted to take a look at some of my older posts and realized everything I posted between earlier this week and 2019 is not in my history anymore. I checked not so long ago and it was all still there, very weird. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I never check my history. I'm very happy only remembering and bringing up my good stuff.

We'll see. I'm a bit of a Nirvana fan. I'm hoping to hear a lot of Lithium tonight.
Reading may have been their greatest concert. Cobain was fed up with playing ' smells like teen spirit' ...lol...so he reverse power chords and starts playing Boston's 'more than a feeling'

if you're a grunge fan, this a must watch concert

Final four draft 29-32. I think. From 17-28 based on regular season points

The draft order for the playoff teams is as follows:

- Teams that did not win their division or make it to the conference finals sorted by regular season standings

- Division winners that did make it to the conference finals sorted by regular season standings

- Conference finalists

- Stanley cup finalist

- Stanley Cup winner

We will be back out of it tonight, sadly.. at least a point against Seattle.
that's my big fear too!

But your right... every time we drop to 5th it's always very VERY short lived... but if we have a miracle night and Arizona and Ottawa can both get points and we some how have learned to lose when we really need to... maybe ... just maybe.. we can start to build some distance behind Ottawa and Arizona... man, would that be a glorious night!

I dunno... maybe I'll just put some money on Ottawa and zona losing so I'll have something to make me cheer up lol anyone know a good site? lol
